How Accurate is the Information You Receive Here?

My gosh... that's not angled back! That thing is horizontal!

You use it as a clothes line also? Can you talk to the fish? ;-)

Looks great, except for the broken antenna.

I've found the info here to valuable. I personnally like to hear everyone's experiences. I haven't been around boats for the last 20 years, so I feel like a newbie. Also, having an older boat I am glad that I can "lean" on all of you.

I hope that at some point, I can add value for other newbies.

I also enjoy the friendly banter (babel/babble).

that all being said, I don't expect 100% accuracy. Just advice/experiences.

Don't change a thing.

I think experience, unfortunately, comes from doing things wrong and well as doing things right. The 20 something year old guy or non boat owner that feels it necessary to give input on the proper way to change impellers on a diesel or how to navigate a 40+ foot boat is just silly.

Gary in March I will be a 30 something year old guy; then I will tell you how to operate your boat, until then I will hush on the matter. :smt101

I guess I should have said "inexperienced guy" and not "20 something year old guy".

Geez... touchy these days aren't we.

We don't need a VHF radio in the middle of the week because there is no one to talk too when everyone else is working while we are out on the water enjoying ourselves. And besides that there are several low bridges we pass under that will snap the thing off if you leave it up and a stub for an antenna is not a cool thing either.:smt009

And didn't you notice the fishing line tied to the end of that thing? We always try to catch our supper when we are out and a fishing rod is not necessary when you use the antenna instead........works great whether you are trolling or stationary.:smt043

And besides, it also make a good place to hang your wet towels.

Same here...Although I left the 20's club and graduated to the 30's club in June.....:smt009

Let's get em' Wesley!

Well there is always the thought "you get what you pay for...

I always look at a problem from a perspective of how much will it cost if I screw it up compaired to someone else getting payed to do it. This is from a fifty something. for free. :smt038

Buy a manual, talk with as many folks as you can. and remember if you are doing it you are ultimatly responsible.

Not touchy at all, I just tend to believe there is a difference between age and experience. Just for the record even if I were 60 I would still not tell you how to operate your boat, only an idiot would :smt043

I will seriously attempt the perfect answer to the question.

"It depends on who you ask"

There are about 10-15 individuals on this board who have shown over time to have accurate information with supported experience and direct knowledge of the question being asked. It takes time to become part of this forum to figure this out as with any community. Once those individuals are identified and you draw on their knowledge. Others who offer inaccuracies over time will no longer garner the respect of the community.

I graduated to the 30's club in December. By some strange quirk of fate, that is also the month I graduated to the 40's club.

May I suggest that you are ultimately responsible for the condition and operation of your boat, no matter who worked on it?

Dave S, in all seriousness on that antenna, I put mine back like that for a low bridge. After two seasons the fiberglass on the antenna was really chalky and now I have a white mark on my black camper canvas. Most of it washed away but I can still see it. Since then I've waxed the antenna and it seem much better.
Who knew you where supposed to polish your rod?
