Houston, I think I have a battery problem.

A few background notes that may or may not be helpful:
-Bought the boat used in the spring
-no battery problems detected
-killed battery in mid July due to left on battery switch
-charged battery
-no battery problems detected after that
-used boat about every other weekend
-last used boat Sept 10th
-Put in winter Storage 11/11 and pulled battery

Went to put all my batteries on the charger and when toping off the water this battery did not have any visible fluid. I could see the metal plates. After topping off the water and putting on the charger it has never reached a full charge. The automatic battery charger has never turned off.

Is the battery toast? Is it even worth saving as a back up or should I turn it in for the deposit?

Beyond toast. Remove it now and replace it in the Spring.

Ditto what MLauman said - replace it in the spring. I have good luck with sealed maintenance free batteries on the 410.

By the way MLauman, I noticed the picture of your mascot in your signature pics. Attached is a picture of our mascot - Lacy - when she was about 6 months old. She's two now and LOVES the boat! Sorry for the highjack...now back to those batteries!

my understanding is if plates come out of the "water" it will soon be dead if not already. I got rid of a maint item and installed 3 blue top group 31 optimas... and I have removed adding water from my list of maint items. I found with the batts on the charger all of the time... I was always adding water to new batteries.... no thanks. I took Frank's advice and replaced them with optimas.
