House Battery Draw?

You guys are giving me a lot to ponder. Great insight from all.

Whatever you decide I highly recommend a good smart charger and battery monitor. Money well spent. Just monitoring discharge to 50% and recharging can double the life of your battery.

You mean 60% DOD? I wouldn't take a lead acid battery (flooded or AGM) any lower.

I've gone to 80% a few times but not good on regular basis for sure. I try and stay 50 to 60%

Good points - here's a follow up that's a little more specific to Mike's case. He already has an 8D installed. If we get rid of the Ah variable and for sake of argument say his option is to install (3) DC's that equal the (1) 8D in terms of Ah... would there by any benefits from a "use" standpoint - forget about moving them around or space requirements for the extra 2 batteries. Which option, in day-to-use, would be best for him? To me, it seems like 1 battery keeps things simpler? And although the (3) batteries are basically one "bank", I gotta think that one battery still charges better than multiple individual batteries? I mean, in "theory", the 3 batteries should work/charge just as well... but in real-world use?

Now you have applied a specific to the scenario, eliminating consideration if fitment, since in your example, there is already a single 8D in place. So that leaves us with price, capacity and muscle. To make the swap, the 3 singles would have to be WAY less expensive or offer WAY more AH. Otherwise, sticking with the single 8D is the simple choice.

In terms of charging and discharging, there will be no issue with multiple batteries wired together as one as long as the cables and terminals are quality.

If you have an 8-d and one of the cells go bad, you have a bad battery. You go buy a new 8d.
If you have 3 each of -27 or 29- or 31, and a cell goes bad you buy another 27 or 29 or 31, not 3 new.

Actually disagree, if one battery in a bank goes bad replace the bank as the older parts will drag down the new and all will suffer.

Thanks, Wylie.
