I replaced the gauges and dash panels , but the new gauges don't have hour meter function. what can I use as a secondary meter? it doesn't have to be on the dash. looking for suggestions on install / location / type .

Do you have EFI's? if so you really don't need them. the hours are stored in the ECU (I don't know if it called an ECU). You can plug your motors to a merc-diagnostic tool and it will tell you exactly how many hours the engines have.

can you guys suggest what exact wires to best install these things on?

Usually tied to an ignition wire... like at your distributor cap. If you have electric fuel pumps, that would be a good place also.
