Planning to come up this weekend and considering bringing the boat if the weather looks good. Kids want to do Cedar Point while the adults head to the islands. Can anyone recommend a hotel near by that has a place to launch a boat and maybe keep it in the water. The only one I can find is South Beach Resort on Marble Head. Thanks.

I believe the closest ramp to Cedar Point will be at 101 Shelby Street, Sandusky. It is just across the bay from Cedar Point. As for hotels there are several in the area, but none that I know of that have boat dockage. There are hotels at Cedar Point - the Breakers - and a campground with cottages. They also have guest docks at the Cedar Point marina. You may want to check out Cedar Points website for lodging options. There are also places on the islands that might be available. As an FYI, this weekend is the start of Bay Week - Inter Lake Yachting Association Regatta at Put in Bay. Docks and rooms will be scarce. Enjoy your visit!

Thanks for the heads up Casey! We did get the family suit at South Beach. My teens can use the water taxi to CP. They have space in their marina which is on site as well as a launch so this will work nicely. Hopefully, we can find a place to dock when we get to the islands. we may just do Middle and Kelly's.

I agree. I'm biased of course, but I recommend just staying at the park and keeping the boat at the marina. Hotel Breakers has been completely renovated. I don't recommend Sandcastle Suites however. It's just an old motel with a partition at the foot of the bed.

As you make your way across Sandusky Bay, there are some shallow spots. If you go under the bridge to Johnson's Island and run between the island and Bay Point, it can get real skinny in that area.

How did this work out? My friends all work for Lake Erie Shores and Islands and I'd like to give them a report. For future reference, you can rent a condo in the Chesapeake Lofts in downtown Sandusky and leave the boat across the parking lot at the Paper District Marina. There is also a new boutique hotel with a rooftop bar called the Hotel Kilborne and Moseley's Public House, also right by the marina. If you work with a local, we often know of condos or homes for rent and boat dockage is much closer than most of the hotels.

worked out great. The hotel was pretty nice - not plush - but having the private marina and the boat slipped just walking distance down to the water was great. However, the ramp there was not suitable for launching so we had to launch at a park just a .5 mile away and drive the truck and trailer back while i drove the boat over. Overall, i'd do it again. it was convenient location for cruising around. if i could fine a place to rent that has a private dock attached i'd consider it.

If/when you want to come up again, shoot me a message. I have a few friends with places in downtown Sandusky that might interest you. And being downtown gives you a lot of really fantastic food options as well as boat dockage and secure parking. Sandusky is really experiencing quite a resurgence right now with fine dining, high-end bars, and now an excellent marina right in the middle of it. Give it a whirl!

Thanks! Will do. We usually make this trip once a year so I'll be in touch next summer.

Yep, agreed about Sandusky restaurants/bars. Was there in '12 for a Cedar Point/NHRA vacation, and hit up Crush Wine Bar and one other French place (can't recall the name), both fantastic. I've thought about bringing the new boat down there, but not until next year. Long trip, but could be fun. Had a blast when we jumped the ferry over to Put In Bay. That's a hell of a party.
