How many of you are running zincs in your hot water heater? Currently I only have a drain valve. Is it needed on a 6 gallon water heater.

I've never seen a zinc in a marine HWH. Guessing they don't use them (?)

first I have heard of this.....I know there is no zinc on the HWH in my boat.....I replaced the HWH when I first bought the boat so I know that system pretty well.....maybe there is some type of housing for a zinc that can be installed in the water line but I don't see how that would protect the tank inside the HWH from corroding....

perhaps the HWH's installed on large Yachts are designed to have a sacrificial anode.....

There was no zinc on the HWH on my old boat, and I don't think there is one on this one either. But now that you mention it there probably should be one. Especially on raw water cooled engines where the HWH is plumbed to get heat from the engine when it's running.
