99' 310 Sundancer. When hooked up to shore power, does the water heater work when hooked into shore water supply, or does the water tank need to have water in it with the pressure pump turned on?

It should work either way. Generally you want to turn off the pressure pump when hooked up to city water.

I thought so. Was working for 1 day, then quit. I thought I was doing something different or wrong!

Thanks!

Don't turn it on with no water in it the element will burn out.
Can you replace just the element? I'll have to ohm test it first.

Yes.

If hot water tank is original to the boat you may want to plan on replacing it soon. Ours failed a few years ago got new one that was exact same size and make took half a day to replace. Make sure the fittings are in the same place on the new compared to the old. Cost was 400. No idea what an element will cost but if under 50 I would just replace the element if more economic sense says get a new one and feel secure it will not leak. One replaced was steel clad new one was aluminum clad.

Element is about 22$ at an RV store
There are 2 thermostats above the element replace them too they're about 15$
You just need the model of the heater its probably an Attwood.

Yes, it's an Atwood. I just ordered the element from Amazon. I doubt the thermostats are bad I think I left it on with no water in the tank. I smelled a burning smell and wasn't sure what it was, but now I know
