I have a 1989 SeaRay 410 with 12 gal Raritan hot water heater ( and
Heat exchanger). Water is still Luke warm after replacing both the element and thermostat. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.. Just Peachy

I'd keep it simple and work on getting an air bubble out of the system. Its possibly blocking the flow of water.

How is the water temp after a decent run? Meaning, any difference in water temp when running the engine?

How's the actual water flow? Normal? With your water pump on, try opening the relief valve... good water flow out of it?

Not sure how to do that ... water off? Drain heater? Refill?

Yes I’m pretty sure... water Luke warm but haven’t checked breaker...

Ran engines in slip and Water hot for very short time like 15-20 sec then goes to Luke warm.

Your engine warms the water in the heater and it seems like that loop is working based upon your description. Sounds like you may not have power going to the heater if it is not putting out a continuous supply of hot water. Make sure breakers are on for shore power and for the AC panel and the water heater breaker.

Thanks... sounds logical of course. Could the water heater breaker be weak or bad? Should I Ck breaker continuity?

If all the breakers are turned on, including the breaker at the dock pedestal, you should be making hot water quickly. We usually have hot water within 10 minutes of turning things on. If you are not making hot water by then, something is wrong. This system is pretty simple. Don't assume something is broken until you test for power. Your system has a heat exchanger that takes engine heat and transfers that to the hot water heater so you have hot water being made anytime you run the engine. It sounds like that is working just fine if you have warm water right away. There is another possibility. I you turn the power to the heater on when it is empty you burn out the element. If you did that, you likely ruined the element. Easy to check. Just remove it and look at it. Replace it and you are good to go as a melted element proves you have power.

I’m replacing the beaker for practice. The element shows continuity so going to assume it’s good. Going to fire her up. If I don’t reply it means I’m in heaven.... I hate electrical!

Dissapointed about not being in heaven but......the amp meter on the panel went to 20 when I switched on the HWH so I think power is going to the unit. Waited 10 minutes.... water cold. Could new thermostat be bad? I’ll go get another (3rd) element tomorrow ... wife going to live with plumber next door if that doesn’t work... maybe I will too...

You say "amps" most AC panels only have a voltmeter If you do have a ammeter and a voltmeter something is wrong drawing that much current with nothing else on.

Post a pic of what you got

Does the amp reading change when you turn the breaker on and off? You would expect to see a noticeable jump in amps when you first turn the heater on and it will drop off when the water reaches the temperature the t-stat is set for.

Yes but water still lukewarm. Amp changes but water temp does not...so TS not sending power to the element? Why? Thank yo so much for your time and comments.

What is the t-stat set for? Lukewarm? What happens to water temp if you run the engines for an extended period of time? You should be making lots of hot water when you go for a boat ride. Also how many amps do you draw when you turn the breaker on? Just 10 amps? That seems pretty low, but my boat is in storage and I can't check it. 15 or more seems more like it. Maybe someone down south can help?
