Hot Stbd Riser

Hey John, guess what I just discovered...

The water pump in the outdrive has the WRONG pump base. There are 2 pump bases. One is for the "R" drive with a pre-load pin, and one is for the "MR" drive without the pre-load pin. I have the "MR" drive... :smt021 I feel like an ARSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, the long of it all, it that my cooling system is now BRAND NEW... and my wallet is empty... :smt089[/quote

That is awesome news that you solved the flow problem. However, the manifold overhaul needed to be done and the fact that you can do this work yourself should give you some piece of mind and satisfaction. The last thing you want is to be towed home.

Well done!!!

I enjoy working on motors or anything mechanical.

I find it relaxing, my wife says "if you find it relaxing, you do you get so grumpy?"

Thanks again for the coaching thru the temp readings... :smt038

FINALLY it's over. I have to say I learned a lot reading this 6 page saga. Next time I have a temp problem, I'm refering back to this thread.

TT, I was thinking of you driving over the TapanZee on Sunday afternoon. The Hudson looked really nice. On Friday on the way to PA, it was really choppy out there...

Sunday was perfect

friday and sat.... not so great :smt009

next time you drive over, look for the guy with blue binoculars on his boat.

Glad you got it fixed. I was getting worried there for a minute.

Great news - btw I followed this thread all the way. I have a friend whose boat experienced the same type of symptoms. I was convinced we should replace the water pumps. He was hesitant, but when the zinc bolt stripped, I was asked to help and split the case. Guess what? water pumps were shot! I replaced the pump complete and now both risers are the same temp!

Thanks for posting your step by step thought process.
