speaking of horns, my 1986 Dancer 250 has a single horn (original) that you can barely hear. i am going to start carrying a canned air horn but would still like to get mine louder. is this normal? i can barely hear it at idle and not sure i could hear it on plane and i have stock manifolds (no through hulls).

advice?

My horn went kaput while navigating through heavy fog, so I decided it would be a good idea to replace it. However, I didn't want to mess with installing a relay or rewiring in any way more involved than simply plugging in the new horn.
I learned that the majority of automotive type electric horns produce about 150db, so regardless of the advertising claims, what you need to do is read the fine print where it tells you the actual sound level produced. If that isn't listed on the packaging somewhere, move on.
Eventually I ended up purchasing a horn at the local Advance Auto Parts store. I don't remember what the brand or output is, but it is noticeably louder than stock. It is also slightly larger than the stock horn, though it did pretty much fit reusing the OEM mounting bracket.

cool. thanks. i will look into that
