Edit: This swim platform/generator box is not really mine. This thread is sarcasm because most of us do not endorse portable generators on boats.

I thought about a honda different times but ended up buying a harbor freight predator instead. It was half the price (and may end up being half the generator, who knows) but it serves my purpose. Its quiet enough and provides adequate power. Im thinking about buying a second one , mainly so I can alternate during extended use but i can parallel them as well.

Yes, I think that the Harbor Freight models are far more safer than the Honda for the marine application. Best of luck to you and your family on your decision.

FYI:That recall was from Honda Canada, so our American friends should be OK as long as they havn't been doing any cross-border shopping.

If I use marine grade plywood.....would this work? If I spill any gas refueling it....the wood absorbs it.

I love it. And for the same reason its a great place to store oily rags

Even better I found an attachment on ebay that lets me use dryer vent hose to route the exhaust to a different part of the boat:
