Homestead To The Keys Trip In A 220 SD

I did that trip when I had my 176BR to Key West. The Fairfield Inn there had a parking lot large enough for me to leave the boat there and a marina with ramp was just down the street. I got 2 good days cruising around the two islands be we did not venture more than a couple of miles away from shore the whole time. Spent a lot of time slow cruising over the coral beds looking at all the neat fish. A trip well worth making at least once. We did the trip in November so there was no snorkeling but the water was very clear to see a lot of fish. Take it slow and keep your charts handy since the shallows come up pretty fast.

Why is there no snorkeling in November? That is when we are going.

Got it. We were hanging out (or trying to) on Peanut island two Novembers ago and I remember how cold it got. In fact, it was colder there than it was here in Detroit. We were not happy, but what can you do?

Let me rephrase, it was a little on the windy and chilly side so we did not snorkle.

All this talk is killing me!!! I've been trying to line this trip up for a couple of years now. Wife just isn't overly crazy about the idea. She says that's a long time to spend on a boat. She says that she would meet me in KW. A week (nine days) would be perfect. Two days travel (one each way), two and a half days down, two and a half days and two days in KW.

Ahhh... Summer dreaming!!!

My wife is the same way. Her main gripe is trailering the boat from Michigan to Florida. I have already made the trip once with my 180, but the 220 is bigger and heavier. I keep telling her that this trailer has disc brakes, but she doesn't believe me! LOL

All I can say is at least you are in FL already! Here in MI, our water is ICE!
