Ok, we are looking to relocate in 36 months to FLA. we started our research 2 yrs ago on the west coast.
although the Gulf side is very attractive, we have decided to expand our research to the East Coast....
we have spent the last week in Northern FLA .as our best friends are on a home search, we put together a "Marina" search...starting with Fernandina harbor marina and working our way south I have to say the marinas where pretty impressive.. We then headed south to Jacksonville and ST Augustine marinas,,,,
all pretty well equipped but more of a dry stack equipped marinas than a wet slip marina ,, we are looking for a low excitement low energy low amenity kind of atmosphere just to work from rather than party from marina. We need high security with reliable wifi to keep an eye on the boat while at home near bye. Most are in the $14-$16.50 per ft per month range we are planning on relocating the boat every 6 months to the north then back south for the winter.
all recommendations are welcome as well as help would be appreciated .. We hated to return to NY on Tuesday with 38* weather after spending the day on the beach with 80* teams........

We are docked at Hammock Beach Marina in Palm Coast and love it there. Excellent floating docks, power, water, pump-out, wi-fi and beautiful restrooms/showers and its gated with a guard at the gate. Low key, quiet, nicely protected and right off the ICW. No fuel but right across the ICW at Palm Coast Marina is fuel. The harbormaster Neil Kaczmarek is a great guy and couldn't be more helpful - nkaczmarek@hammockbeach.com Very reasonable rates, a 30 ft. dock is $250/month for everything, not sure of the larger ones. If you are going to consider NE FL, this marina should be on your radar. Let me know if I can help in any way. Jim

This is off the Saint John's River in Jacksonville.

Ortega River, Orange Park, Jax has a couple of marinas there.
Doctors lake, just past the Jax downtown area off the St. Johns River. I believe it's fresh water too.

All of our experience in that area has been as transients, our home marina is between Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

We love the town of St Augustine, have only stayed at the city marina.

Have you considered Stuart, FL? It is further south. We really like the Sunset Marina. Nice thing about Stuart is you are already on the Okeechobee. You can turn south down to the urban areas or go west across the lake and you are on the west coast in a day.

Overall, we spend much more time on the west coast of FL - we really have grown to love the Marco Island north stretch on the west side.

I spent 3 weeks on my boat at Camachee Cove in St. Augustine. I can't remember how expensive it was, but definitely a nice marina worth checking out. If memory serves me right, they even had a hotel at the marina. A restaurant too. Solid WiFi, a library to work in if you want to get off the boat, laundry room, etc. The town has a ton of old charm, cobble stone streets, good restaurants and very nice people. I was really impressed with St. Augustine. I think it is the oldest town in the US.

Unfortunately for me, if I liked it, I probably couldn't afford it.

THanks guys, I have googled the suggestions and all look good so far. We did check out Camanchee marina while there
they have condos onsite We are also open to more southern locations as St Augustine was our starting point.
We've been told the north can actually get to some freezing temps overnight during the winter and the idea was to escape the freeze. So places south of st Augustine are on the radar for the next visit planned after our boating season ends this year.
any other info is helpful and appreciated.

To get away from the possibility of freezing temps, you need to look south Melbourne. They call it the tropical divide. We are thinking St Augustine area, because its a bit cooler in the summer months than southern Florida, but a little warmer than here in southern NC in the winter.

We are now heading north after spending our winters 2 years living on our Sea Ray 480 in FL. One year at the Moorings in Longboat Key (Sarasota) and then Marco Island Yacht Club. Both are very quiet but relatively expensive for condo/home costs. That's why we lived on board comfortably. Another area to consider is Cape Coral, nice boating area and not as busy as Ft Myers.
