Alright sundancer owners.....please help.

7.0 kw Westerbeke

Its never given me issues in my whole 2 weeks of ownership, now it is.
I went to start the generator and it give me a loud beep at the SR systems monitor display

Here is my procedure:
flip on generator solenoid
hold down "preheat/on" for 20 seconds
press "Start/Run" button and get immediate buzzing sound at the "Searay Systems Monitor" that says "generator alarm"

What the HECK is happening!!!
Its run perfect this whole time, and now this just happens.

Anyone else have this issue? Im very mechanically inclined, so please throw me some options.

Have the same genny. Had issues with fuel pump and had the carb cleaned and rebuilt. Our procedure seems the same.

I turn the blower on, wait a few minutes. Then turn the genny switch on (middle position). Loud continuous beep starts. This is normal, handy to let you know if the genny quits running. Hold preheat for desired time (takes less now than before). Then push genny start button which turns the engine over, mine now starts in 3-5 seconds. Once the genny starts, loud continuous beep ends

You get the alarm but did you then try to start it? When you start it and she runs the alarm goes away. Sounds normal to me...

I think the buzzer you're hearing is a low oil pressure alarm and it should go out after a second of two of the genny running. It doesn't go out immediately because it takes a second or two to build oil pressure.

I have tried those steps mentioned above, but when I click the start button, it doesnt do anything. It wont even try and turn over.
On the actual generator itself, I have two switches: "ON" and the another switch "Start/Stop"

When I try to start it from the genny, if i flip the "ON" button up for a few seconds, I hear a solenoid activate, then I try to hit START but nothing happens .

Im going to try and go start it again this morning, but this time hold down the preheat switch a little longer.

Thank you all for your feedback! Hope to get this thing going today

UPDATE!! FIXED!!

I found the issue. posting this on here to hopefully help someone else in the future.

The reason if would not start was because the starter solenoid was engaged and stuck.
I tested and made sure I had power to the starter first to determine this, and then also checked the relay Ohms. All was good.
I went back to my old school roots and touched both positive terminals on the starter. it made a quick spark on the screwdriver, but it disengaged the solenoid and all was good.

Started right up!
shut it down, and started right up again.

I may be in for a new starter soon, but for now it works. I think what happened was a start and power shut off at the same time and it caught the starter in an in between mode.

Happy weekend everyone!!

Just so you are aware, you can get a new starter from the local auto parts store.

Or from Westerbeke, at 5 times the cost.

Good on you. It amazing how some very basic knowledge of DC power and the ability to use a VOM can save you hundreds of bucks in professional services. I teach aircraft maintenance at the local JC and we spend several weeks on a basic electricity course for that very reason. Good on you for continuing to work the issue.
Carpe Diem

Glad to hear you got it running again!
