Holding tank removal

I have a 1988 268 Sundancer and am trying to remove the holding tank to access waterlines in the back.

When I turn the water system pump on , water is pouring out from behind the tank. If I turn the faucet on in the cockpit the leak stops and as soon as I shut the faucet off the water starts coming out from behind the tank again. I did this just to narrow down the issue.

I can not see where the leak is without removing the tank. I undid the hold down straps and the corner bracket as well as removing the air filter, slid it as far back as possible but feels like something is holding it from sliding any further back. I need about 3" more to get it past the gas tank.

Any ideas of what could be holding the tank or tricks to remove it .

Thanks,

Joe

Your boat is the same age as mine. If it has plastic pipe with brass fittings the fittings are probably leaking. I have has some fail. In areas I can not reach I abandum the line and rout new. If you can locate both ends of the leaking pipe you may want to consider that. If I was to remove my tank I probably would damage it.

Ok. Thank you. I'll search around more in the area of the leak and see if I can narrow things down a bit and if its more hassle , reroute as you said. I was thinking of going to a smaller holding tank as one, I will not generate enough waste to even fill half the tank and two, it will give me easier access to the plumbing in that area should something happen again.

Put your phone on video, with the light on, and stick it back in areas you can't see yourself.
