Sea Ray, 1999-2000, Pearl Color Boat Gel Coat Patch Paste Repair Kit - Spectrum Color F551400AK

I ordered the above product.

I have a sea ray boat which hit the corner of the dock hard while docking. It put an 1/8 inch deep circular impression in the shape of a quarter in the side of the hull. Three fine spider cracks about an inch long extend from the circular depression. I don't feel structural damage, but then again I'm no boating expert. I just want to seal the 3 small cracks to keep water out.

Is the above product I bought suitable for a repair described above? Will one coat over the fine cracks keep water out? Is more than one coat needed? I think the crack will be below the waterline sometimes.

Do I need to drill out the cracks larger for the gel coat paste to fill the damaged area? The cracks are very narrow.

I was a little unclear how many areas this quantity will repair. I also have a small 5 inch gel coat scar to fix. I have never done gel coat repairs before. I thought it took many coats with sanding in between. Is the above product I ordered a one step repair paste instead? Just wanted to make sure I am ordering the correct product for the job.

Thanks

I had a similar experience last year while pulling into a fuel dock about a 30mph gust hit the bow and blew us head on into the dock it sounded worse than it was. There is a 2" hairline crack in the bow with some spider cracks I had a couple quotes from gel coat specialist the one our marina recommended was between 250.00 to 400.00 depending on how much he needed to do after he got into the job the other quote was 125.00. In the area where it is both of them said it wasn't structural just cosmetic I'm going to have the 250-400 do the work later this winter.
Be sure and look at some of there work & references before committing there are some who do terrible work after seeing a couple boats the one for 125.00 did I could do a better job with no experience.

If your damage looks anything like this one where you can see the fibers, call a repair shop. Don't beat yourself up over hitting the dock. It happens to people who use their boat, doesn't happen often to dock queens.

Go to YouTube and search for boat works today and watch the videos. You will quickly understand what you are getting yourself into. I do all my own glassworks and gel coat repairs. It is easy and pretty fun. But it's not for everyone and you can make it worse if you are not the patient meticulous type. Being anal and ocd helps too.
