i bought an 89 340 DA last fall. Just moved it into its summer slip in a covered marina on the Ohio. Cleaned it up and things look ok. Not completely chalky but needs a little polishing and waxing. Was hoping to have the boat pulled this Spring but due to nasty flooding this year everyone is backed up. I found the business card of a guy that worked on the boat before. Spoke w him today and he said he can do a wax job, while in the water, above the rubrail w a buffer and below by hand as close as he can get to the waterline. He hasn't been to meet me yet but said probably a $200 for the wax job and maybe $200 if he has to compound it. Was quoted $20/ft from the guy that was going to do it out of the water.
So, is it worth it to gamble on the cheap guy? What questions do I ask to insure he'll do a good job? If the finish is in decent shape but still kind of dull, is there any point in waxing without compounding first? Remember, this is an old $15,000 boat on the Ohio. I'm not trying to impress anyone, just want the boat to look ok for the season, but don't want to waste money. Thanks for your input.
