Highfield… any regrets?

We've not bothered to recharge Odyssey AGMs on the big boat when stored on land over winter... ~4 months without any attention... no issues, batteries still almost fully charged after splashing in Spring.

Even our diesel tractor with a run-of-the-mill AGM (East Penn, I think) sits over the winter without needing recharging -- unless we have enough snow that it requires plowing (didn't this year).

I wouldn't try that with wet batteries, though...

Speaking of speed I have a 9'6" ab inflatable rib with euro helm and 25hp 2stroke. It will do 33.5mph. Was messing with props when I first got this one and did 35.5mph once. It got unstable feeling and was rocking on the keel. Quickly took that off and went back to the one I had. Now I have to replace the prop cause as it has worn the rpms went up. Didn't know till I ran it so hard I cooked the rod bearing and messed up the cylinders. Maybe not enough oil or ran lean at high rpm. Had to buy a new crank assembly and pistons and rings oversized and had the cylinders oversized to clean it up. So now the powerhead is new all for $1200. Got one of those tiny tacks and after breakin found I was at 6700rpm wot.
Everybody calls it the lambodinghy. Lol

tested my 310 with a 20hp today and hit 28! Little bit of river chop and I think I could actually bring the motor angle up another notch to squeeze more out. It wasn’t as squirly as my air floor but I wouldn’t exactly call it safe at that speed. I sat on the floor lol

Re - maintenance charger for dinghy battery. I installed the charger - it took two days to bring that little "brand-new" battery up to full charge. I thought there was a problem as the charger still showed charging and was rather hot to the touch and contacted ProMariner technical support. They said it's not unusual especially for new batteries and batteries that are not used in a charging circuit like alternator.... It finally went into maintenance mode. So, I'm glad I installed it.

I stopped in at my highfield dealer and said okay how do I get one….. 310 with aluminum bottom …. He said order mid summer for next spring delivery $4,800.

is that what you guys are paying?….. seems a little steep

Sounds like a reasonable price. My ab 9.6vl was just slightly less. That's just the boat. All total with helm seat, motor and miscellaneous stuff it was about 10k in it.

Is that hypalon? Our 310PVC was like 3800 I think, got it this spring but last off the stock that had from over winter and was told it would go up 10%

I would never buy pvc. Had one years ago and it did not last at all. Maybe up north with short season its ok but didn't hold up for me.

we placed our order in mid January. A 360 Classic GT w/ 30hp Mercury, Dealer said last parts acme in today and we can pick up next week. 18K plus a Karavan Trailer at 2K.

I wanted a PVC but the dealer has none and said I’d maybe get one by October. So I went with the Hypalon they had in stock.

Thank You! Ordered 15 of them and the StaPut loops.
Just curious, I have the HF CL310 with cover from Carver. How did clips and loops work out for you?
Tim

Finally got my CL 310 launched this weekend. Got the carver cover as well. It’s a snug fit, and it took some finagling, but it fits snug and well with my 8hp. I don’t use the rub rail clips. I use the straps that go underneath.
