From the looks of the swim ladder, it seems you were in the water taking those beautiful photos. How deep & cold were you?

First of all, beautiful pictures. Higgins lake is God's country.

I felt the water with my hand while on the dinghy in Lake St Clair last weekend, and my hand is STILL cold.

Have your boys descended yet?

Thanks for the comments guys. I was almost waist deep in the at least 50 degree water taking those pics. I was determined to take them so I chanced never seeing the boys again to get them. The reflection bummed me out but I will get better ones this summer. The weather really was nice sitting still, I got burned! The water was just crazy cold! The area behind us is the only undevoloped area of the lake, its owned by a church group and was a perfect backdrop for the pics.

In Lake Huron on the way to Mackinaw Is. we saw the bottom in 40'. The bottom of the lake! The bottom of the glasses we see all the time.

The zebra mussel gets lots of flak. It's made the water pretty much crystal clear, though. I'd say that balances out some of the ills of having them around.

I hope you are kidding about the zebra mussels. They are one of the most destructive invasive species to hit the great lakes area. They have all but wiped out the perch population. While Higgins has always been a very clear lake many of the northern Michigan Lakes never had that kind of clarity, e.g. Houghton Lake.

Not kidding, you find a large rock on the bottom you will find a few latched on. I have seen other places rocks totaly covered. Its not that bad yet, but they are there..

Brad good pictures, and yes Zebra mussles are in Higgins Lake and hve been for abot 3 years now. higgins has and always one of the cleanest lakes in he World, yes I said the world... it is considered dinlking water at best... Houghton on the other hand is nasty, dirty mucky bottom.. .

Brad sorry the weather and water was cold, you should have been with us in Elk Rapids, stormy, cloudy and water temp of 42 degrees..... Yeah never went in and never will at that temp.

Hey Rob, I think your responding to the wrong person...unless Wreckless' name is Brad also. No biggie though.

I checked out your website...mainly the the Higgins Lake page. I didn't realize Higgins Lake was so nice. I was there about 15 years ago when I was younger (about 15 yrs old) but didn't pay much attention to it back then. Planning to get up there sometime this year...can't wait.

I grew up in East Tawas which is not too far from there and I remember we would go swimming when the water "warmed up".... to 65 degrees... I can't imagine getting in water that cold now.
