Hi-Tek Manifold installation

Hi All,

I have recently purchased a set of stainless manifolds from hi-tek for my 5.0L MPI. However, after two hours of mucking around with the head bolts in I have only manage to get the outer two in and I am thoroughly stumped. There doesn’t seem to be enough room for me to even get the bolts in the holes let alone get a wrench in there to torque them up.

I have seen that a few people on here have purchased stainless manifolds from hi-tek for their boats and I was wondering if you could share any tips, techniques or special tools that you used to install yours.

I would post some pics of my set up to make things clearer but am not sure how to do this with my phone (Galaxy S2).

Contact Bucit/Perry on this site, he installed them and had a few issues himself and could probably give you some tips.

Try contacting Rod, Rcknecht on this site. I believe he had those manifolds too but, a much different boat than yours.

Just a couple of lessons from my installation... I would use permatex high temp gasket sealer on the gaskets... All my gaskets leaked... I used SS bolts, which I matched the OEM steal bolts, but there is very little clearance ont the HiTek manifols, and in retrospect, I would have used bolts with smaller heads. Re-tighten your bolts after running your boat for a few weeks... My manifolds are 3 years old...

I used the gaskets that came with the manifolds and installed as normal with no leaks. I installed mine last April. I agree, very little clearance for the bolts to be installed. I used a 1/4" ratchet along with an array of swivel type connectors and swivel sockets to get them tight. I torque wrench was out of the question. I got everything tight, ran it a few times (while looking for leaks) and then retightened.
