Hey South Carolina Boaters - How's that Personal Property Tax?

In NC I personal property tax on my boat, my cars and my waverunner. Other states that don't charge an annual property tax charge high sales tax on the initial purchase. NC caps sales tax on boats and cars at $300.

Thats just weird.

WTF Property Tax ?

Property tax is a vestige of taxation from the days when property owners were the "rich". It is also rationalized that property owners get more value from government in police, fire, and other services and therefore they levy "property taxes" on owners. It will vary state by state just what is taxed as property and what is not.

None of us like paying taxes. Canada may not have a personal property tax but I haven't heard of too many US citizens rushing north to the new Yukon tax haven.

Property Tax on your boat? Really?

They don't do that here in New York...

Yukon? Ohhhhhhh. Kaaaayyyyy....?

BC is a pretty sweet place to live, Alberta no sales tax and Southern Ontario juts south pretty well. Georgian Bay is some of the nicest boating in the world. NC is a pretty sweet place too...just didn't know about the property tax thing. :)

My neighbor is all excited about turning 65 next year for that very reason.

Got my South Carolina driver's license on Tuesday. I'm a full time SC resident now. Guess I gotta go change my profile to take off all the Virginia stuff. Celebrated with a ride to Daufuskie in the 175 Sport. ICW was like glass all week.

Have you ever been over to Morgan (Monkey) Island?
