Fly over today caught only the Chicago area as weather caused our flight to deviate from it's mission.
We did get some revealing pictures though. Looks like south end Lake Michigan boaters can splash any day now.

Please disregard the reflection of the photographers instructs in the picture. You can only ask so much from volunteers.

Amazing to think that last month the south end was completely iced in. We seen lake shipping boats 5-6 miles out under way.

I launch Wednesday, but have no plans to venture out in the lake for a while.

Bill, it's coming faster than you think. Pretty soon they'll be zipping over the waves like there never was any ice....but it'll be too cold to swim for awhile.

I was really surprised how fast the ice had receded. Looks like folks on the south end can splash anytime. As GFC states swimming would be detrimental to your health right now. I have seen many water ski in May with wet suit on when we lived in Wi.

it's going to be at least three weeks, before we hit the big water, I want to make sure all the global warming has taken effect, and melt all the icebergs.

Holland last night (4-9-14)....still ice floating as far out as one can see...crummy pic but you can get the idea that it will be a while yet as you suggest Boltman Holland 4-9-14.jpg

And here is Grand Haven this morning...still a long way to go.....Gd Haven 4-10.jpg
