Just got our first boat, an 01 Sea Ray 185BR. Cleaned it up, put a wake board tower on it and thought we were ready to go. Finally got to turning the stereo on and we hit our first snag. Its a Clarion Marine unit. Checked all the fuses (the ones just behind the unit, the fuze box under the instrument panel and even the memory one in the eng comp). Pushed all the buttons, turned everything on and off in every combination I could think of with no luck. Am I missing something, I would hate put in a new one to find out there is some odd little fuze link somewhere you would never think. Any help would be great.

Proud new Sea Ray owners,

Jasonandjess...

Welcome to the boards! You'll find a lot of useful info here!

Techmitch beat me to it.... Is the key in the "On" position? My guess is it was while you were trying every combination imaginable! I can't think of any other fuse that may be holding you out....

Did the stereo work when you first got the boat? If so, did you do any work around the head unit itself, maybe accidently bumping the wiring harness?

I'm pretty sure you've probably checked those "common" things first!

Sea Ray makes a great product... Your going to love that boat! Bear with us here, we'll get some sound coming out of those speakers soon!

Make sure you check the wires for voltage at the back of the stero. I learned the hard way that both the memory wire and the + wire MUST have 12V for the system to come on (Clarion XMD3). My + had 12 and memory had <8V and it would not power up. Turns out I had the perko switch on Batt#2 and the memory wire was hard wired to Batt#1 (I didn't know batt#1 was dead). When I put the perko to ALL it would work fine. Replaced the Batt and no further issues.
Sorry for the long post, but I hope it helps!

I understand having to ask but yes, I have tried it with the key in the acc, off and start position. To be honest, I didn't try the stereo before I bought it, it really was not a consiteration at the time cause because it was such a good deal. No bumping but in the process of doing some hard corp cleaning it might have gotton wet, not sure how waterproof it really it. I'll check the voltage when the rain subsides and report back. Thanks for all the help guy!!

Good news, I got out today with a copy of the wiring diagram and a multimeter. After a little bending and reaching into tight spaces I found that I was getting 12 volts off the Red (ignition wire) but nothing off the yellow (memory power). I also found that there was no power running to the stereo memory fuse in the back. Then I realized the issue, when the guys that put the new carb in took the battery terms off they hooked the secondary power supply wire to the Neg and not the Pos. Moved it over and put a nut on it and all is well. Thanks for all the advise guys, it definitely let me to figuring this out.
