Here's my tip for the day....what's yours?

Mmmm, I just found out that a panini sandwich is really good on the Magma!

Lot's of freshwater on board
Redundant guide systems, radar and VHF
PLB
Spare parts and tools, impellers, filters, clamps, hull plugs, belts, hoses. All in the basement.
Hi protein snacks
Beer

Not trying to hijack but damn that was good- Rye, ham, turkey, cheddar, provolone...

I learned the hard way about not enough ropes, that's a good one. I just replaced our 4 in use and have a new set in storage. Color coordinated I say!

Speaking of lines;

Keep a complete set of lines on both your boat, and at your slip. The slip lines can be pre-measured for your tie-up style. The boat lines remain attached to your cleats for use at a guest dock.

Similarly, keep separate power cords for your slip and on your boat. Again, the slip cord can be pre-measured or even shortened as appropriate to the location of the pedestal and your power inlet.

Here's one that started a debate at our marina. Many of the captains won't let their wives drive the boat, but I insisted that my wife not only drive, but learn to dock the boat. I like to know if anything happened to me that she would be able to get us back in.
I made sure my wife could drive and dock the boat a long time ago. Came in handy when I suffered a heart attack in the middle of the lake.

Nothing boat specific but here are the tips my dad gave me years ago...

Drinking...don't let Joe Pabst drive your motorcycle.
Income tax..don't mess with Uncle Sam, give him every cent he has coming but not one cent more.
Marriage...a marriage is like a team of horses, when they pull together they can get a lot done.

Dawn Power wash nothing better in the engine compartment, smells good and no fumes!

When selecting a boat name, I always spend time thinking about how it will sound when repeated on the radio for years.

I apply the syllable test, 1 or 2 syllables is great. 3 is pushing it.

I make sure it is not a tongue twister saying it 3 times is rapid succession.
Speaking of boat names the wife laid a guilt trip on me other day. Our last 2 were Sassy Lady. I’ve already explained how we came up with Pirate Lady. She wants to change the name to Sassy Lady. Really. After we had boarding rug, interior rug, pillows, glasses, cups, the transom all done, she wants to change it back to Sassy Lady. JFC, I don’t have enough to do on the boat? I need this?

I was at a fuel dock in northern Michigan two weeks ago. As I was fueling I heard someone call in for help getting into a transient slip, didn't quite catch the name, but heard the three dock hands start laughing after they talked to him.

I asked what the guys boat name was, assuming it was funny.

They chuckle and say "his boat is named tight fit". Those guys got a pretty good laugh about the whole thing. I can only imagine calling a draw bridge as "tight fit".

Maybe it was named after his prom date o_O

Compromise -- promise the next one is Sassy Lady?

Give all new guest a safety talk.
Don't be in a hurry.

Don't yell or get pissed at those that are on the boat and are helping you.
Don't over throttle when in a panic.

My Mom didn't care about driving much but my Dad wanted to make sure she could read charts and navigate if anything ever happened to him, while they lived aboard in the 90's and 2000's.

I would be dead if my wife couldn't drive the boat. Literally dead.

Well I know at least for me I'm glad that you're still alive and I hope that means something because it can happen to anyone of us at any time

Thanks, I'm glad too. I was one of those rare people with no heart disease, no blockages, yet had a heart attack. It reinforced my belief in "live for today because tomorrow is not guaranteed".

Happened to me, heart attack in 2010, spent 4 days at Union Memorial the premiere heart hospital in Baltimore. 4 days of test, told me they could find absolutely no reason why it happened, zero. But now I take my cholesterol pills and heart pills and doctors tell me I am good every checkup.
Like when you take the car to the mechanic and he can’t find anything wrong.
