I have purchased a Monster Tower for my sport 185 and would like to know where is the best place to mount it. If you have pictures, they would help.

Thanks,

Dave

hopefully billandamy will chime in - do a search I know this has been covered at length - one thing I seem to remember is that even on boats that did not come with the tower the factory "glassed in" the supports - you may want to get under the gunnel and see if you can find the reinforced areas and start there

Which tower did you get?

I have a 1999 210 BR with a Monster Tower MT2. My boat is old enough that it did not have any factory reinforced supports, your boat being a 2007 should.

However, they may not be the best location for your Monster Tower because the factory tower would have been a different brand. But since the Monster Tower is so universal I would think they would still work.

You can look at the customer pics on the Monster Tower website to see how/where others have mounted them. See the link below,

After you come up with where you think you want it mounted, I would highly recommended that you have a few buddies come over and help hold in place while you go through a few steps to see if it is really going to work there. Fold it down to see where all the tower legs fold, verify that they don't hit the windshield or get in the way of anything else. Make sure your windshield walk through can still open and close. I had to move mine about an inch from where I first wanted it because I could not close the window without it hitting the leg. I am glad I checked before drilling any holes.

I have seen people put their mounts on the side of the boat and then have issues with the vertical poles on their trailer.

You will also have to tighten the hardware from time to time so make sure you have decent access to the mounts from underneath.

The location for wakeboarding is really irrelevant compare to the fit and function of how it works in the boat. Just having the tower will help with wakeboarding. You won't care if it is 3 -6 further forward or back while wakeboarding but if you can't fold it you will.

They are really pretty easy to install, just make sure you think it all through before you drill any holes.

Thanks for the suggestions. I purchased the MT1 and it seems the best place is on the flat top portion of the sides. When I fold it down it lays on top of the engine compartment far enough back so the front legs also lay on the top of the engine compartment. I did look on the Monster site but there are no close up pictures to see where they are actually mounted. I have not drilled any holes yet but do agree to set the entire tower on the boat to see if there are any conflicts. I have held the back legs which have the top attached and is seems to look ok but your suggestion of setting the entire tower seems best.

Thanks,

Dave
