I recently bought my first sea ray, a 2002 Sundancer 320. I have Mercruiser 350 mags with v-drives. I am replacing my Garmin chart plotter and have received conflicting advice on the two replacements I am considering: a Lowrance HDS 5 with lake insight and structure scan, or a Hummingbird 597 with the advanced chart mapping. My dilemma is that I have been told a) HDS 5 requires bronze through hull with 3 transducers, b) Hummingbird only makes a transom mount transducer (and I'm told the prop wash will eliminate the DI function). My goal is a great chart plotter with clear down scan. I don't fish, and am little concerned with fish finding or water temp. What is my best deployment?
