The depth finder in my boat works for maybe 10 to 30 seconds and then alarms. It will register the correct depth and then it will alarm and then show that I am in 1 or 2 feet of water. Do I need to replace the whole thing or do I need to replace the transducer?

I believe it is the original depth finder and transducer.

Thank-you for any and all answers.

aHoy, you did not state what make and model.............. of fish finder you have!!!!@we keel haul forless!!!:smt013

Mine did this at one time and I replaced the transducer. It could also be pointing at a bad angle, or need cleaning, as I recall.

Same thing was happening to a dock neighbor of ours. He swam under and cleaned the ducer off. Fixed. It just had some growth on it.

My Garmin depth finder does the same, I also get the flashing depth display and it takes hours before a depth reappears. Cleaning did not help. Readjusting the location helped some what. Its PITA. I'd love to get a new one but ouch $$$$$.

Inspect and clean all your connectors as well. Put a little silicone grease on the terminals to displace any moisture that might get in there. Its a good idea to do that with all of your outside terminals that are exposed to water.

I got three out of mine before discovering they 'no longer supported' the 3500 line which in mid season meant the bill automatically started at $ 250.00 to pay for the haul out.

Understandable, I would be PO'd as the kids would say.
Thank-you DavidMorgan, tomorrow I will clean and inspect all connections.
