I have a jabsco remote spotlight, the up/down gear is broken, I got the replacement parts, but cant figure out how to get gear off. there is a spring that holds it tight, and i cant figure out how to remove it, it is to strong for me to push down

You need c clip pliers. There are two small holes on the clip right, can't tell from the picture. The pliers have similar post that fit in there and will stretch the clip out...

I call them Jeezus clips as they usually fly off causing you to utter the phrase...

I don't know if Radio Shack has them, the pliers that is. Not the most used tool but handy for one or two times you ever need them.

nope c clip pliers did n ot help
i used a vise grip and a mouth full of curses and swearinf, the washer that holds in the e-clip has walls so I had to bend it out, I lost 2 of them trying to put it back on, hope it works,
if not I think I will not be getting another 500 is way too much

wight e went thru this aggravation last year. every time i replaced any part something else failed or was just so tough to get at. went to a go light with wireless remote for a whole lot less than the 500. best was it took less time to install than taking the jabsco off

good luck if you need any other parts let me know i have awhole lot of parts that used to be the light.

Sorry to mislead you Larry!! But thanks for the picture and post as mine is about to die. It's on its last legs and you have convinced me that replacement is in my best interest....

Comprimise thanks for the post that looks like the way to go...

well believe it or not it is repaired and working
minus 1 brass and one nylon washer that sat under the rimmed washer with the c clip in it
definitely not a an easy job, but i saved my self $500 on new light fixture

I would really like to find the guy that designed that light and give him a good shooing
