I'm at a loss. I went to open my hatch an it went 2 feet then stopped. I went down and checked the voltage on my battery. I'm at 9V and the charger lights are not on. I checked in the engine room and the panel is on , nothing tripped. I took apart the cabinet and tested the 120 input, Nothing! There is no breaker in the cabin to check. All my 120 outlets work. It there a different breaker for the charger?Ideas please help...

They do have an internal fuse in the charger, but the units do also go bad. Replaced mine in a 2004 280 this past spring. Fairly easy replacement, ordered online, updated version has digital display.

Yes, but the 120v power too it had no voltage reading...

You should have a breaker on your AC distribution panel for the battery charger.

I do in the engine comp. It is not tripped... Tomorrow I'm going to pull the panel cover and check the in and out of the breaker to make sure it's not bad.

Bmac is referring to in the AC panel in the locker in the cabin there is a breaker for AC converter, that is the breaker for the battery charger.

OMG..I pulled this boat out around Oct 15th. After I winterized it I shut off all the breakers. Well new batteries last long...lol, because the AC converter breaker was off from then and I've been working in this boat since then. I feel pretty stupid, but to my defense this is my first year with the 340 and SeaRay should label the damn AC converter breaker, Battery charger:smt009. Thanks guys..I'm good to go.

Easy fixes are always nice

Actually if the boat is on the hard you should not be using the the regular shore power to keep the batteries charged. The simple reason is you no longer have a ground connection and this creates a shock hazard. If you are on the hard and want to charge your batteries you should be using a separate charger powered from the marina or pull the batteries and charged them separately. Talk to your marina. They should be able to hook it up for you.

Can you explain how you don't have a ground connection with the shore power cord? One of the wires in the shore power cord is ground.

^^^^^ agreed. How is it not grounded? It is the same 3 wire connection either way.

I went back and reread the original posts. If you are using a marine shorepower cord, and it is plugged into a standard shore power outllet (like those on the dock) then you have your ground. However, if you are bringing power aboard with a regular extension cord from a shore type outlet, and feeding it into the boats system, then you lose the third wire ground. I misinterpreted what he was doing. I made the classic mistake, when he said he was on the hard I assumed..... and I agree with the comment about converter/chargers going bad. I have had to replace two over the last 11 years. Also as was said some have an internal fuse. But if you are getting no 120 then something else may be wrong. Has the marina installed a RCD (Residual Current Device) at the power outlet? They are much like GFCI. It may have tripped, or if you have a GFCI in your system it may have tripped.

I haven't had my old but new to me boat out yet. Its a 1977 240 SDA and while checking out the engine compartment I see a pr of jumpers coming from the front of the boat and looks like they are ment to be connected to starboard battery but are not. I had to do alot of connection cleaning to get things working well. Main question I have is does anyone know where the charger unit is located on this boat? Have yet to pull all the panels that have screws to check behind.

More info on charger would be handy. Aftermarget guest or Prosport? Etc..

I don't know what the charger as I don't know where it is located and if the battery clamps that are there has something to do with it. Those cable wires disappear into the mid of the boat and under the fuel tank. Biggest problem I have found with this boat is everything is hard to get to and fix if you needed too. A few more access hatches at points where you may have to get at things would be most helpful.

... SeaRay should label the damn AC converter...

I could never understand they labeled it that. What's wrong with Battery Charger ?!? So many times I asked someone to turn on the AC and I had to explain "no not the AC Converter" .
