Help: Autopilot won't engage

I have a 1999 310 Sundancer with a Raymarine ST5000+ Autopilot. It has been working great but this weekend it would not engage. The instrument display looks normal, the display shows it go from standby to auto, but it does not take over. Any ideas??

Have you checked the linkage from the autopilot motor to the rudder, sounds like it may have failed.
