Hello all! I am a soon-to-be new-to-me 2006 Sea Ray 220 SD owner. I'm so ready to get her out on the water! This is my first boat but my family had one for most of my teen years.

I do have a couple of questions though. I live in the Cartersville area and will be going between Allatoona and Lake Lanier. Any tips? Like best places for service, what are the best ramps, interesting places to go/see, equipment/supplies I need to get, etc.

I am buying through MarineMax at Bald Ridge Marina and plan to attend as many of their events as work allows.

Thanks for your help and great site!
Chris

Welcome Chris.
My only recommendation for that area is just watch out for Chuck.

Hey Chris Welcome!:thumbsup: I do most of my service through ProBoat on Bells Ferry Rd, but that is a ways from you. I hear that some of the Cartersville MM guys are still at Allatoona Landing though, you might stop by there. They were good folks when it was still MM.

We are on Allatoona as often as we can and spend a lot of time over by the Dam where it is nice and deep, but my slip is at Little River Marina.

You should definately come by the raft up this weekend over by Wilderness Camp and meet some of the guys! There will be a bunch of us I hope!

** As for Chuck, dont let them scare you off!:smt043

Thanks for the info! I will definitely try to come by this weekend, probably Saturday. Have you always slipped? If you don't mind my asking, is it really expensive?

As for Chuck, I'll reserve judgement for now

Nope I have always trailered ( my 1 year of boat ownership ), but my wife got hurt in a car wreck and can no longer help me this year or go on the boat. So I took the plunge and got a wet slip at Little River. Kind of expensive but I use the boat sooo much more. I find I love to go after work when it cools down, or in the morning, and especially alone!:grin:

Most slips in our range (25') which are covered are around $200 / month.

Chuck you're famous or infamous...The MM mechanics are no longer at Allatoona Landing. Ken Hill is still on Allatoona at another marina. He is a good mechanic.

Dan the fiberglass guy is still at the landing working for the new group.

Congrats on the new boat! come out this weekend and say hi.

Sorry to hear about your wife. I hope she recovers soon.

It seems $200 is about the norm. I've heard that figure once before. Does that require a long-term contract or is it month to month?

I'll try to come out soon but the Admiral wants to do Lanier Saturday so hopefully Sunday will work.

Thanks all for your replies! And I hope to meet you all real soon!

Come on in, the water's fine!

Welcome aboard...there is a TON of useful information available on everything from the proper terminology for a dock to national health care. Fun stuff.

As for earlier comments, +1 for Proboat. Tim has always been a standup guy. Also haven't had any problems with the guys at Allatoona Landing but your boat (like ours) is probably still a warranty baby for a while...which means usually towing it over to Cumming.

If you can switch dates this weekend for Lanier...you ought to try. The raft up will put some families and kids together and I think MarineMax is sending over a movie on the water? Something like that, but even if that doesn't happen, we are looking forward to meeting some of these people ourselves. Post some pics of your new baby...let us all share in the addition! Look forward to meeting you.

Most of them will bill you month to month, but they want that year long commitment. Being that Little River is so far from the dam, they are only seasonal which is fine since I will not be out in the off season anyway until I get a cabin cruiser someday.
