Hello to all

I would like to enter this forum by wishing all of you a safe, happy and healthy New Year.

I am the owner of a 1997 Sea Ray 370 Sundancer. (I also own a 2007 Sea Ray 185 Bow rider). I have owned several Sea Rays prior to that so one could say that I am a Sea Ray advocate.

I am new to belonging to any type of casual on line forum so I woul appreciate some help in getting started.

I am looking for advice in the electronics department. I have taken on the project of replacing most of my dated electronics and was wondering if anyone out there has had expierience removing all of the Raymarine harnesses from the helm to the top of the arch.

Is there a way that I can navigate through this site to post my query in an efficient manner?

Thank you for yoour help.

I've not removed the harness, but I was on the boat when the dealer's tech installed the harness and I found all of the access plates and wire runs when I added a Sirius antenna to the radar arch a few years ago. Sea Ray provides plenty of access for doing wiring on finished boats. You should find lots of small access places in the cockpit, on the radar arch, and in storage lockers.

There's no great way of navigating this site. C-Map and Navionics don't have charts for it. Try using the New Posts - 24 Hours to see what's new. The Search and Advanced Search functions are a bit kludgy but sometimes helpful.

Best bet is if Jon sees this thread. He has the same boat, knows the boat and it's system, and best of all, gives good accurate advice based on personal experience, not what he read that someone else did on a 20 year old bayliner.

Best regards,
Frank

Welcome aboard. Looks like you have already got some great advise and thanks for updating your signature info. You may want to post your "electronics" question in the electronic section. You may get more comments on it there. Side note what does AMS stand for? Watch out for Gary he has some great info but loves to dish it out (Grin)

Anthony,

I have 1997 vintage Raytheon gear on my boat but it was not factory installed. The only item I have replaced on my boat is the GPS antenna on the arch after its internal battery died so it was taking quite a long time to get a fix every time I powered it up. In doing this I removed the stereo speaker that is mounted in the cockpit liner wall below the throttles at the helm. You can also remove the plastic molded compartment liner (with the drink holder) mounted beside the helm seat. With the two items out of the way you should get good access to the cables that are running from the helm to the radar arch. You can also remove the stereo speakers below the radar arch base, the access plates in the arch and even the lights in the underside of the arch to gain access to the wiring within. My boat also has a factory supplied rigging tube that runs from the starboard side of the instrument cluster to the forward starboard corner of the engine room. The cables for my transducers and the rudder position sensor for the auto pilot run through this tube. Generally if I am going to replace a wire I would open up the access points so you can see and/or feel where the cables are going and then connect the new cable to the end of the old cable and then pull the new cable through the arch with the old cable. I have a brand new VHF antenna for the boat that I will be installing this spring and this is how I will thread the new cable from the antenna to the VHF at the dash.

I hope this helps
