i will introduce myself-i am from nova scotia and have a cottage on the bras-dor lake.i am shopping for a boat and the toronto boat show afforded me a great oppertunity to see all the boats at once.
i am now looking at the 06 290 sundancer and there are several boats all with less than 50 hrs.
i have been lurking here for a couple of days but i am about to make the final offer in a couple of days and my stomach is pretty queasy.i can't tell everybody enough how good it is to read all the different posts and i always stumble onto new info.this forum has been a great help.

Welcome to the board Driller... Take some Pepto-Bismol for the stomach, and give us some more details on the 290 when you get a chance.

more info

i started looking at a 240 but my brother(01-310 owner) convinced me to go bigger as the lake can turn nasty. the 290 is pretty loaded up incl genny which is a rarer option in canada. i am taking the advice of going as big as possible.
the dealer and i are 5k away from a deal-i am offering 115 and they are stuck at 120cad. less than 50 hrs and has some options that i was not looking for such as underwater lighting and colored hull.
i also offered to purchase the extended warranty from them(1471cad per 5.0 engine plus i am using their financing.
other notes:they offered a captian for a day before i take it in the spring-i have inspected the boat and it does come with fenders and other safety access.
boat will operate in salt water but it does use raw water cooling-i will be very diligent with the mercathode system.
the suprise for me was dealers telling me it was not worth the fwc conversion as the stern drive is the biggest concern.
thats where it stands so far

Hi Driller and welcome to CSR.

I hope you conclude your deal on the 290 soon. Closed cooling would be my choice for Salt Water but as long as you are dilligent about flushing your engines with fresh water after using them they should be fine. If you have Bravo Three drives, consider adding additional Mercathode "pucks" on the transom to cut down on corrosion.

Best of luck with the new boat.

Welcome Aboard  . Make sure to post some pics of your boat in the virtual marina when you get your deal done :smt024 .

Where is bras-dor lake?

Greeting Driller -
I can't help you with the questions regarding the 290 (I've owned a 240DA for 6 yrs now) but I'm curious where you're boating. We have been to Nova Scotia several times and have good friends in Yarmouth. Also, we had relatives in St. Johns, NB and have driven up and over the top to Yarmouth, then taken the ferry (The Cat, a 55 mph ferry that will transport 1000 people and 400 cars from Yarmouth to Bar Harbor in under 2 hrs).

So - is bras-dor lake the same as Bras d'Or which, I think, is north of Peggy's Cove? Google Earth didn't locate the lake so I'm really curious where you boat.

Driller, sounds like the 290 is a fair deal, I'd probably take 100K for it, especially if it's last years model!

I'd also rather have a closed cooling system, but either way corosion is an issue, especially if you have a B3. Definitely add a second mercathode system, it's cheap compared to what it could turn out to be.

If you've never seen a boat with the underwater lighting, YOU'RE GONNA LOVE IT! It's amazing what "wild life" will come up and say hello.

Welcome Driller

I too am a relatively new boater but have heard many stories (not good) I might add about RWC engines. I would much rather prefer a FWC like the others. WHich ever way you go enjoy and have a wonderful time on the water. I love it.

Again Welcome! :smt038

location

the bras'dor lakes are located in cape breton-opposite end of nova scotia.the lake is approx90 miles large and deep(good sailing)-hardley any boats around though.check out some sites-i think you will be impressed by the lake.

as far as the boat-they have turned down my offer so i am still looking.i would prefer fwc but if i had the money i should be looking at a 310 with v-drives.

I'm sure yu will find the right boat. Be patient. As for the 310 just, if it is the new one with the jump seat aft on the swim platform, just be careful of sharp edges. There is another topic on this website that will explain why I say that. Other than jumbseat, nice boat. GOOD LUCK! :smt024

update

i have still not made a deal on a boat.the more i read about stern drives and salt the more i hesitate.i am now looking at a 320 with t350 v-drives.a lot more money and as a first time buyer am i over my head.(i did own a 18 footer in 88 but i was young and foolish.}
my question is how much more money should i consider is worth the upgrade. this is like comparing apples and oranges as the 320 is a different boat than the 290 and one is an 05 the other an 06.
the bravo 3 290 is more my price range but i don't like trouble. we have a short season as it is.
