I am "in contract" on a 1999 340DA as we speak....hopefully everything works out and I am on water by the end of the month. Not my first go around (hence the moniker) but it is my first Sea Ray.....I've already acquired quite a bit of info from here (owners and parts manuals)....I'm sure I'll enjoy the association here.

Good luck and welcome to CSR!

Good luck with the purchase, let us know how it goes. Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the forum. All the best with your deal. Need lots o' pics when it happens.

Hope it all works out, welcome aboard!

Thanks for the welcomes.....sea trial done......boat rpm's up to 4400-4500 (7.4's with 760hrs) stays on plane reasonably well...seem to be able to bring it down around 3200-3300 and stay on plane....cocktail speed at 1600-2000 is pleasant. One point of interest.....a couple times accelerating up the starboard motor seemed to have a hiccup where it would lay down a bit before accelerating...actually drop rpm's and then come back up...only did it a couple times and after it ran for awhile seemed to be OK.

Survey next week

Right on:thumbsup:, that's another step closer. The stumble could be a number of things. First thing that comes to my mind is old or dirty fuel, restriction in the fuel supply somewhere, fouled injector etc. If it could be something more serious hopefully someone with experience will chime in here and give you some advice regarding what to look for. Good luck with the suvey.

More than likely, this is just an ignition wire breaking down.

But, if you don't own the boat yet, this is where a mechanical survey by a Mercruiser certified technician may pay dividends. MPI engines generally don't have injector problems, but individual injectors may. And, if the boat has had ethanol fuel run in the system, this could be very expensive to sort out, so it would be better if you have the leverage with the seller to refuse the boat based on performance/reliability if you get the issues diagnosed and it turns out to be an ethanol clean-up need.

I do NOT own the boat yet....I have instructed my salesman from MarineMax to let the seller know (its a brokerage boat) that he's going to have to pay someone to find out whats wrong. Tomorrow is the survey...hopefully it does it again during the sea trial with the surveyor.

thanks for for the heads up Frank

Yep super Frank does it again. Thanks again sir Frank.

survey done....WOW they really go thru the boat......impressed.....some issues of course...biggest one is delamination (I think thats the term) around the port vent forward of the windshield and around the windlass and anchor rode and chain compartment. Seems someone put snaps on the bow for a cover for the sun pad and didn't seal them very well on the port side...they also has replaced the windlass with a newer model and had to put a plate over the original hole which they didn't seal very well either. Surveyor still rates boat at "above average"......he valued the boat less than what I've agreed to with the seller...time for the negotiations to begin.

Don't be afraid to look outside of your area. There are many to choose from that would be worth trucking a good distance. Good luck!
