Hi All. I bought my first boat back in November and am psyched to being launched next week. Since I am new, I am sure I will have a lot of question, but will start with hopefully a simple one. How do you go about getting extra keys made for a Sea Ray? We have two sets, but my wife and keys (car, house, etc) have never been good friends. I can't count the number of keys she has lost over the years. So I would like to have more than two - I'm sure we will need them sooner or later.
BTW, does anyone one there stay at a marina on the Metedeconk?

I was told Ace Hardware has the blanks for the keys but I have not yet verified that myself. I guess the Sea Ray dealer may have but I'm sure they would be more expensive.

More than likely you have a Perko ignition which that key can be copied anywhere. It's a very common blank. I am a locksmith and always recommend using your local locksmith over a Home Depot, ACE or generic hardware store, because the locksmith has a much more accurate key machine.
I then assume you have a second key that is for the cabin. That lock is made by Southco/Mobella. It should have a number on it that is in the 800s or 900s.
Do yourself a favor and call and order that key directly. They will charge you $10 or so plus shipping. Many have found Harley Davidson blanks that are similar brouching but just save the potential wear and tear and get an original.

Their customer service is excellant.

Good luck

Thanks for the info. The cabin key is indeed a Mobella. I'll track down a local locksmith for the ignition key. Thanks again.

NJNewbie,
I concur with Todd. The hardware stores don't have the blanks to make the keys but a good locksmith does. Also places like Home Depot don't have machines that can cut a two sided key like the one for the cabin door. In fact I am actually going over to the locksmith in about 30 minutes to have the ignition keys duplicated so I can provide a complete set to the marina so they can access the boat for maintenance or an emergency.

I found the Perko blanks at a local True Value and as it was close to the marina they make a lot of copies and they worked fine. I do agree with Todd too at as I have been through so many keys that never worked from Home Depot and Lowes it is beyond frustrating!!!!

The cabin door key you might be able to get directly from your local Sea Ray Dealer, I brought three $9 each put them on the car keys and on the boat keys as I got down to the marina to find that I forgot the boat keys and could not unlock the cabin. Fortunately the marina has a master set that I borrowed to get in....
