Welcome Fred...

Did you happen to pick your boat up from Harbor Side? I went on an 89 340"DB at their boat show...

Welcome to the club...

I really enjoy my boat in cincinnati. The "30 minutes to the boat" statement makes a positive difference in my life.

Welcome aboard.

Hi Pyrojodge, Picked up at Cedar Point, missed one at Sandusky that was sold the week before we went up to look around. Found this one during that huge rain that hit with something like 10" or ?? Had too much time and looked at too many ads and we saw the boat we purchased listed. We were not looking to really buy now but life's short....

Fred, I know all to well how that works, buying a boat and never really meant to...lol

Yes, I remeber the rain very well it was crazy...its also the same weekend I stood on my head replacing the impellers on my engines... I hope that you enjoy your new love and keep us posted on your adventures...

If you are ever around this spring and want to talk boats give me a shout and I'll buy the first round...
Again congats...

Jim

We are taking it to Manhattan Harbour in Dayton, Ky. Have to leave Lakeside early May and we hope the River in not at Flood stage as it was last year until late June. If all  goes well we are holding a party, theme = T. G. Its over! It sure has been an adventure and I'm thinking of writing a Book!

Jason, Thanks for the first round, may need it. If you want to do another impeller job please let me know. Thats on my job list as soon as the barn opens up. Got the alternator off now, bottom paint next, pull the Arch for the Truck ride etc. Basically each job might be a 6 pack job ( or more).

Welcome!
I hear you on the 4 hours thing. I was really hoping I'd fall in love with the river when I moved down here but I think growing up boating on Erie has permanently screwed me up. I don't know how to downsize my playground to a river! :D

Was the Markland pool really that bad in 2011? I don't remember those problems in the Meldahl pool. We boated Memorial day weekend. Might have missed a few weekends because of my sons high school graduation and associated parties. I boated the Friday before Father's Day and I know it rained the rest of that weekend. I do remember the water temps being cooler than past years but so were the ambient temps. Went to the beach the last weekend in June but returned July 1 for a great July 4th weekend.

You are very welcome Fred. You'll need it... actually your boat should not be so bad with the strait drives... now v-drives on the other hand forget it... its not meant for people...lol. I was able to get my parts through Napa. I know it sounds strange but the price can't be beat and I have had no bad luck with them...*knock on wood* if you are unsure of when the impellers were last changed I would sugest switching the entire body. If they are metal they are probably pretty old. If the housing is plastic then they are the new style. But for added assurance I would replace them I believe they were $40 for the entire kit... good luck and congrats on the new ride...

Side note... here's my baby...

Let me know if I can help in anyway...

I have replaced impellers on several Merc 454's over the years and have a supply of kits stocked up!! Always changed every 3rd year but this boat looks like it may take a few minutes to do. Any way thats part of any learning curve, blood, sweat and beers:grin:. As most DIY's we tend to make the most out of it! Might hold a impeller party, each attendee can take turns at the wrenches and swearing at Mercury Engineers!!! Egads I will be happy to get this over and get on the road with it.

Hi Wishfish, We were trailering last summer with a 270 Sea Ray so the few times we tryed to go down to the river it was flooded. We tryed in April, May , June and finally got in first of July. The ramp at Manhattan was covered in mud so we had to wait until it was open. No problem as we took the boat around several other places. Around the locks the water is typically not as bad. We boated out of Craig's Creek ( Markland) for many years and only once was it so bad we could not get out. Cincy take the brunt of the high water stage or so it seems. I grew up on rivers so flood's I do not like to be out on.

The Meldahl Pool is so different than Markland Pool. There are no major cities in the Meldahl pool that contribute huge storm water run off to the river that you may see in the Markland Pool. I also think the problem has gotten worse as they have removed storm water from the sewer system over the past decade.

I've been really happy with our experience on the upriver side of the city of Cincinnati!

Fast Fred,

Such a pleasure meeting you and your beautiful boat yesterday. Wow she is very clean. We will def get together for dinner or something in the next few weekends... Hope you have a great week and you are getting your projects done before she ships home. Keep in touch and I'll talk to you later...

First off welcome and congrats on your new to you boat.
Spent most of my life on the Ohio. Spent the last few years boating out of paint lick creek. This is in the markland pool up river from Craigs creek a couple of miles. Ive been a river rat for 30 plus years and last year is the worst year I can remember for boating. I was unable to get my boat wet till first week in July. The debris was terrible and the water cold. Tore up a brand new outdrive with less than an hour on it. Second one in two years.
This prompted us to give up on the river. Sold the 27 foot power boat and graduated to a cruiser which we put on lake cumberland. Got tired of my brother calling me in April telling me how much fun he was having using his boat on the lake. The drive sucks but we'll get a lot more time on the water instead of the on the trailer.

Good luck

Welcome aboard! Have fun!
