Please edjumacate me on my Cruisair system. The generator was removed before I bought my 290 and I haven't docked and hooked up to power. Only 120v power was on the trailer so no testing of the hvac system yet.
I'd love to have heat downstairs now that the weather has cooled at night. Does the air conditioning system need to also be functioning to use the heat? My panel has never lit up and I haven't really done any research on how to use it or diagnose any issues with it.

It's a heat pump system so runs in reverse cycle when heating, extracts heat from the water and moves it into the cabin.
Runs on 120v so should work on the shore tie fine.
As it needs water flow even when heating it wont work on the trailer.

Thanks! I didn't realize it's a heat pump. I understand how they work. I have two for my home. Now I'm edjumacated. I appreciate it.

and just like a heat pump is not too efficient when the air is real cold, dont expect to get too toasty when the water is near freezing. it will warm, but might need a supplemental heater.

My understanding is some of these units are reverse cycle A/C units (heat pumps) and some units are A/C only. So it it depends on what he has. In cooler climates it is always good to have a small (dimensionally speaking) 1500 watt ceramic heater to augment the heat pump.

That's a bummer about the generator.

I'm trying to figure out by your picture where your unit is located. Is it under the V-berth?
Exactly. Under the v berth. Thankfully it appears to be in very "clean" condition. I wish it weren't r22, but that's not the end of the earth. If only I knew it worked lol The lack of genni is a definite bummer, but it's one that I'll remedy at some point in the not too distant future I hope.

There is an old shop up in PDX that has a few rebuilt units. I have thought about taking both kids in to trade for a working old gennie. I asked them about them and they said that with so many tweekers living on boats now, they pay them for the units and rebuild them. They said it was a lower cost than a new unit and they sell more of them. So they will keep buying them and the tweekers can get their next fix.

Sounds about right. There's someone up around NYC that advertises the same thing. That's probably where he's getting them all too.

Makes since to me. If they are living on the boats and staying tied to the dock and never moving, might as well put their equipment to use. Now if they would remove them from the docks so some of us can have a slip when we need one.

As Patrick said, she's got to be in the water to work but you should be able to do your initial diag. on the hard.

I checked those out just today. Thanks. So it should power up in the hard. Good to know. She doesn't seem to be doing that yet. I'm going to check it out a little closer this weekend.
