Heat Not Working Randomly

Like any AC system, it gets evacuated, then filled with the proper amount of Freon with a dye. Checked for leaks and tested. Then fixed, evacuated, and refilled with proper amount of Freon.

I'm pretty sure there are switching relays inside the junction box that will direct the position of the reversing valve. You "may" be able to switch the heat and cool relays to see if the issues changes from no heat to no cool.

jaywoodz, any resolution to your situation yet?

The guy was supposed to come out yesterday, but couldn't make it. I'm meeting him tomorrow morning at 10 am. I will update everyone when we come to a conclusion. He specializes in boat AC repair. I called Dometic direct, and they recommended him for my area. I can't wait to see this bill.

good news....I'd say you got out pretty easy on this one....

When you say solenoid do you mean the reversing valve that you had circled in the pic or was it located elsewhere?

This might be a cheap "try to repair" for some other owners that cant get these service guys to come out to a boat.
And how did he actually troubleshoot it?

Apparently it was the solenoid that is used to activate the reversing valve. He said the board was getting power to the solenoid, so he said it must be that. If the board wasn't providing power to the solenoid, then he said it would have been the board, but after replacing the solenoid, everything worked. He did offer to put it in heat mode manually until he got the solenoid in, but after a quick visit to his truck, he was able to find one he forgot that he had.

I have a Cruisair self contained unit on my Sundancer 395 located under the bed in the forward cabin. Does anybody know where the reversing valve would be on this unit as I have developed the same problem with cold air being blown out when in heat mode please.

reversing valve is what I colored red in the circle area. It has 1 3/8 tube going in one side and 3 copper tubes coming out the other side

Thanks NorCalRobert, I was asking about the reversing valve as i have read that these can get stuck and sometimes need a tap to free them hence asking for its location. The aircon works fine but the heating blows out cold air.

Bill, pardon my ignorance but solenoid operated spool valve you mentioned, could that cause the same issues.?

A bad solenoid coil on the reversing valve or a low charge can cause the reversing valve not to switch over

...or simply a stuck reversing valve. I have one like that. I can put it in heat mode and tap on it and 1/10 tries it will shift and heat. The rest of the time, it blows cold air. Have had the charge checked and verified the solenoid was good and still will not shift as it should. Boat lived in FL for many years and it is a newer unit, but the heat was never used....very easy to use a small Camfro electric heater than go through the hassle of removing it and replacing the valve. The AC in the summer works perfect.'

Was main culprit in 75% of the ones I worked on when doing HVAC. Valve and / or control board were #1, gas charge was #2 (but always checked 1st just because).
