Today after my sons T-Ball Game I'm taking my 5 yo twins to meet fellow CSR and iBoatNW members(only 6 in total) in Longbranch, WA. I've never been this far south in Puget Sound and I am looking forward to it. The Admiral's out of town for a Mother's of Multiples convention, so I'm on Daddy duty, but looking forward to this overnighter. You can see Mt. Rainier in this borrowed picture from familyyachtclub.com and hope to see it out later today.

It should be a great time and around 70 degrees with little to no wind. I will trailer about half way there.

Look at the live view of the Sound right now, From King5Tv

I'm looking forward to it.

I can stick the webcam on my dash if you have Windows Live Messenger and you can take the run with me

It may be a hour run or so..........

Sounds like a great weekend Todd. I lived in the Seattle area for my first 27 years and started my boating there. The rest of the family is still there. I have always said that when the sun shines, there is no place prettier than the Puget Sound area.

But boating in the Sacramento area is not bad and there are lots of places to go. We have the in-laws here from Virginia and had them out all day yesterday. Oh....did I mention it was 85 degrees.

Gary....it sucks to be you.

That was a great run. I dumped in at Shilshole. Sunny skies and absolutely flat calm water, it was just what I wanted. We ran at 3600 RPM on the way down. Cruising against a 2-3.5 knot tide I figured, we ran at 25.7MPH (GPS).
On the return it was a following outgoing tide, so I ran at 3400 at the same 25.7MPH (GPS).
2 hours each way on great water, both ways.
Just me and the twins and 4 other boats and the new GPS worked great.

IMO the "South Sound" is one of the great secrets of Puget Sound (at least as short a time as we've been living here). We'll often head out of Gig Harbor and go 15-20 minutes south, kill the engines and simply float. Sometimes even during the work week for a bit of on the water H-hour. Or...another choice is Cutts Island - drop anchor and take in the Olympics to the west and Mt. Rainier to the East.

On Friday, we took off from Gig Harbor and met some friends on the waterway in downtown Olympia for an early dinner. We left Gig Harbor at 5:00 and were back at 8:00. Probably saw one other boat the entire way there and back.

Water is almost always calm, scenic and quiet. Give me a shout next time you are down this way. "DougBB" lives down here as well.

As always Doug, Lea takes great pictures. I'm changing my signature pic, to the one with Rainier she took. Big Hugs to Lea!

Thought many of you would enjoy this photo of Todd trying and his new earrings... this is before the beer and single malt scotch... FWIW, we kept him from looking for the islands' chickens...

Todd, if you get to make that run again, and want a great alternative to a marina, try the state park at Jarrell Cove. There's 600+ feet of moorage and a slew of mooring buoys, which we prefer. The park's great, but just staying on the water there is cool.

Great fun, beautiful, secure and quiet.

When we get out to the Sound, we'll make a long weekend and stay in Gig Harbor at Arabella's marina a night or two and stay a night or two at Jarrell Cove too. Our favorite thing to do...

Have fun. Mon,Tues, and Weds are supposed to be windy, rainy, and crappy. I'll stick to lakes,if the weather gets bad I'll just head to the dock, run up to the house, and have a hot toddy.

How far south is Jarrell Cove from Gig Harbor?

Thanks!
