We have made a number of trips to Sarasota, Marina Jacks and Longboat Key Club. This year we'd like to go furhter south. We are looking for a nice marina to stay at. We like reasonably upscale with good restaurants and a lot to do in the immediate area. Any suggestions or other tips?
PS: we are a 310 Dancer
Thanks!

My favorite, and FL home port, Palm Island Marina. Great facility, best in area, restaurant at dock (Johnny Leverocks) or my favorite (Rum Bay) over on the island. Shuttle boat service discount included in your stay. Take your tender or small boat over and be sure to check out Don Pedro State Park, twice voted #1 Park in Country.

If you want more shopping then head into Charlotte Harbor to Fisherman's Village. But the facility is not too upscale.

Venice, stay at Crow's Nest. 4* restaurant.

Captiva, stay at South Seas Plantation.

I concur with the recommendation for Palm Island Marina. Great Spot, and very friendly marina. The fixed docks are OK. Nice pool and showers, and good restaurant right on site.

Another recommendation for further south is Cape Harbour Marina in Cape Coral. It is close to the intercoastal and located inside a Lock, so no problems with tides. A number of nice restaurants on site plus some upscale shopping. Plus, very close to some excellent cruising spots. I have also heard nice things about the South Seas Plantation. Can't go wrong with either of these!

I agree with what everyone above posted (recently stayed at South Seas, really nice), just thought I would mention another option is Naples. We stayed at the Naples Boat Club for two nights and enjoyed it (although definitely would pick South Seas if I had to pick between the two).

Regards,
Jason

If you are here for a few days you should consider Useppa Island for part of your stay. If you have a tender you can shoot over to cabbage key for lunch and if seas allow over to the Cayo Costa state park for a quiet walk with the admiral.

I'm not a big southseas fan but don't let that deter you. I am probably tainted by what it was before hurricane charlie wiped out the place and the owners. Check out Tween waters (somewhat pedestrian) and the Greenflash can be entertaining for dinner. They are all on Captiva.

We also stayed at Useppa on our recent trip, it's a beautiful island, very peaceful. And the Useppa Inn was wonderful in terms of dining, but I would caution you it's basically the only restaurant on the island (not counting the bar which has some bar food). If you like upscale restaurants and having a decent choice of places, you might be happier at South Seas. Useppa was amazing but more of a remote/nature experience as compared to a big resort like South Seas. Just my 0.02.

Jason

Agreed on South Seas, was much better before the hurricane. The new owners think "expensive" is a good substitute for service. Mucky Duck and the Bubble Room can be entertaining places to eat as well. Love the Green Flash, not upscale, just good food.
