Head question

One of my few complaints about SR is their continued use of the sanipotty as a head. It just seems a bit cheesy given the class of the boat and the fact that even Bayliner uses a better looking head - pump up/ suck out.

I am just curious as to what everyone else thinks of the sanipotty (who has one) I am looking at a 240 DA, so it is not a live aboard, but I was thinking about the vaccuflush retrofit. I just don't like the siting on a box perspective of a sanipotty.

I did notice that at the recent boat show, even the '07 260DA still had a sanipotty hard wired (ie pump out) installed. Am I wrong, or is this really the best - most fail-safe option?

Comments?

I'm not sure if I''m understanding you correctly but the vacuflush head is a common option on the 240DA and is STANDARD on the 260DA. Are you sure it was a 260DA?

Bridog is right on the money the vacuflush is very much a standard on the 260DA.... now I admit I have not been on many 240DA... but the few time I have had the opportunity the 240DA was equipped with a vacuflush ..... like Bridog mentions it seems to be a common option around this area as well.

Here are some pictures of the dometic toilet line up... maybe they look similar?

I've often wondered the same....why a porta-pot on a 240 ? well anyway mine has one and it suffices....we have a rule.....only use for #2 in an emergency !

The Vacu Flush is a $2050 option on the 240DA. You can always order one that way if that's what you want but that's awfully expensive if you don't need one.

I have had both a 210 and a 240 Sundeck with a port-a-potties that were just fine for how we used them. Now I have a vacu-flush in my 260DA. I like the vacuflush just fine but if I ever went back to a Sport Boat I still think I would get the regular port-a-potti. At least by making it optional on the 240DA, Sea Ray has found one (other) way to keep the price in check so more people can afford a small cruiser.

I can tell you after having one for 7 yrs on our 270 the standard sized holding tank on the porta-crapper was not big enough for us on a weekend. We "upgraded" to the 6 gallon tank, which set you up in the air as if you were a king on his throne! It was plumbed to a deck fitting for pumping out, or you could disconnect the plumbing from the tank, cap it, and carry it proudly down the dock. We chose to pump out often.

I considered using an electric diaphram pump to a larger holding tank in the bilge. Then connecting the larger tank to the deck fitting. But chose to live with the 6 gallon tank instead.

The 270 was our 1st cruiser and we didn't know any better for a potty. The retro-fit would be possible...if you are in to that sort of thing.

did anyone ever tell you that you were full of crap? did you listen? j/k

w2f - actually full of pi** and vinegar :smt043

I should have done the math....24 cans x 12 oz = 288 oz

2 gallon holding tank = 128 oz see a problem developing?

LOL!!!!

well the 260 I saw at the show in Feb 07, definately had the boxy sanipotty hosed up for a pumpout.

Guess for a person not wanting to take a swim, a primary would be OK. But a secondary must be only in an emergency. That and the offender must do the pump out duty. or is that dooty?

I just can't figure out why mfg's still use this thing with so many other options avialable for a boat of this price....as well as rinker, 4winns, etc....

I noted the same thing at boat shows, either they are loaded up with every possible option, or they are stripped of options to make that monthly payment show well on their "Boat Show Special"

Some boats with the porta-pots have the engine up grades so you can get to shore faster when you have a #2 knocking on the door :smt043

Although I still dont see how they can put a porta potty in a 260DA (as shrike has seen) since a vacuflush comes standard. I can certainly relate to the "stripped boat show special". The 300DA they had at our local boat show had no windlass, generator, canvas, electronics, ect, but it had the upgraded engines? All thing's being equal.. I think I'd take the upgraded engines. I'm glad I got mine with both.
