HDMI Cable Lesson

yes very true as long as you don't buy the cheapest crap - any High Speed HDMI cable will do fine.

But that is about the same for audio cables. :) My ex. father-in-law did a cable blind test for a lot of high end audio journalists. Guess what... the electrical cable (yes normal 110/220v) won.... They had about 20 audio cables from high end to super high end - to super low end. The test was conducted in a special sound dampened room designed for speaker tests. My ex father in law was a speaker designer for a very big speaker manufacture. The journalists was so embarrassed none of them wanted to write about it.

As an EE I do know it does not matter very much as long as the cables are the same length and can carry the amps and voltage without to much fuss. And on a boat using copper wire is not super for longevity - so we need slightly more expensive cables. But buying Monster Cables or similar is a complete waste of good money you could put into buying better electronics and speakers.

C'mon kaz!

You're not going to get into 'skin effect'!

Just kidding, I could not agree with you more. The best thing about monster cable is their marketing department.
Won a $50 dollar bet about 10 years ago with a guy who claimed he could tell the difference between monster and radio shack.
He liked the radio shack 12 gauge better! 20 songs (played 2 times each) later, he was a little pissed and a little lighter in the wallet.

BTW kaz, Who did your father-in-law work for (if you don't mind divulging?)

Got all of my HDMI cable from Monoprice - Like a tenth of the cost of local & they work great. Also got some wall outlets & other trinkets from them.

He was the head designer for Peerless speakers - a quite well known OEM for a lot of big guys :) He worked there until he was at least 75 years old. At 67 he stepped down to part time...

The sound room was one B&O had built with help of Peerless as far as I remember. But there was also many funny stories about B&O requirements. Like "We have designed this speaker case - now can you please make some speaker units that will fit and make it sound fine..." - which for high-end audio is a bit of the wrong way around... *G* - that was enough to make him pull out hair... and he stopped wearing wrist watches to work as he to often got stuck to the magnetising machine and destroyed to many wrist watches. At some point he was wearing a Mickey Mouse plastic wrist watch because that would not stick to the machine *G*
