Serious question. I heard yesterday that Canada's response to Biden shutting down the keystone pipeline was to tax (tariff) Canadian lumber coming to the US and that has raised our lumber prices to unheard of levels. Any truth?

The high lumber prices are an example of 'supply & demand' which was affected in some unexpected ways by Covid. At the start production dropped, inventories were run down...the unexpected was the increased demand, large jump in new construction, remodeling and the USA is not the only market for building materials.
Like milk, Canadian lumber imports to USA have been an issue for decades. Trump increased tariffs on lumber but then reduced them near the end of his term, they're around 9% now I think. The bad news is that Biden is talking of doubling Trumps tariffs right now.

Thanks Woody. It's just really weird around here to see our local lumber company (Biewers) with a FULL yard of wood stacked so high when there is a supposed to be a shortage.

Every time tariffs are applied on Canadian lumber they take it to the world court and the US loses. Thats been going on for decades.

FYI - ate at Portside’s Thursday after a nice fishing cruise on my friends Amberjack 270. Never walked down to that marina before.
