Haul Out

We usually pull in mid October and do other things such as color touring and Big ten football. It feels good to have the boat inside a clean warm building before the November storms Lake Michigan is known for. It's blowing 22 out of the south west now and we are going boating this week end. More of the same weather for Saturday/Sunday, and we enjoy fall boating; however, when the gales start, it's best to be put away. I stacked a full cord of split oak yesterday and we will be ready for winter in another six weeks.

I'm getting Hauled this Saturday.... tomorrows weather is supposed to be in the 80's :wow:!! Then it comes Crashing down to normal 60's on Saturday and even colder on Sunday!! Looks like Fall is finally arriving! :smt089

This is my first year with a moored boat and I was going to leave it in until at least the end of October, but, I have a lot to do around the house and I'm not getting it done with the boat in the water (if you know what I mean) so I'm pulling it out either this weekend or next Friday.

Between work and school I just need one less thing needing my time....

What's a haulout?

We're lucky 'cause we boat all year. Wyrman, you could too if you want. I just blow out my fresh water lines and put a couple of 1500W heaters in the boat and one in the bilge. We "flush and wash" with gallon jugs of water we bring from home.

If you leave it in you'll be able to participate in the Christmas Lighted Boat Parade. We do that and also our annual New Year's Day Cruise!

I'm coming out at the end of the month, I would probably stay through or into November but my insurance requires haul out by Nov 1 and I don't see the need to call and deal with extending. Like some others here it's time to pay attention to things other than the boat. Yup, I said it and it will probably last a couple weeks. Then I start with boat shows, planning and buying things for the boat and counting down to April 1. It's a wonder I'm still married.

Tuesday Oct 9th- the first day after the Canadian Thanksgiving (our Marina does not do launch or haul outs on long weekends except for emergencies). Last year we had 80 degree sunny weather on our Thanksgiving. This year 50 degrees, rain and wind. Punishment for our great summer weather I guess. At least this year I won't be sweating when I am winterizing the water systems on Monday.

We haul every 3-4 years for bottom paint.... You mean you guys do it more then that ?

I was supposed to pull it a wk ago, but it has to be out by the 15th cause the marina starts shutting things off then and completely closed on the 31st. I got a feeling I'll be winterizing in sloppy snow again this year.

I pulled out last week and my dockmate last night. Its time to clean and winterize now. Besides, we were running out of water, levels were so low this year to begin with.

Ahhh... Nope, nope ...... Ain't gonna do it, Ma!!!

(Guess which cartoon character)

I've been out since September 16th... just didn't post anything. I didn't want to bum anybody out. :smt089

Going to the boat tomorrow to winterize.

I'll be coming out in the next 3 weeks or so. Handy being best friends with the service manager, they'll haul both our boats last, or close to last.

next June for bottom paint... Plan is to winterize before ski season starts in mid Dec... I am in the process of winterizing the little boat right now... I am cooking my damp gone as I wright this...
