Has anyone used an electric BBQ and mounted it in a rod holder?

I'm looking to do something like this on my 340. I want to do the rod holder thing because I don't want to mount a bracket on my swim platform. I'd rather drill 2 holes and and install 2 rod holders. Anyone do this and how do you like the BBQ?

Interested in the responses you get. Especially in the feedback on electric grills. I’ve got a little round propane Magma (which sucks) that I use with a Grill-a-Mount (that I love) that I hang on the grab rail over the “trunk”.
I’ve found that standing on the platform to grill is the most convenient location for me and the Grill-a Mount is nice and steady.
There is no comfortable place inside the cockpit for me to grill.
The only spot without seating is the port side which is the pathway in and out of the cabin so grilling there is inconvenient.
Running a 110 outlet to the inside of the trunk, turning on the genny on the hook, and using an electric grill with a Grill-a-Mount somehow on that same grab rail might be the best set up.

There have been several post from Australia. They say good things about them. I have had 3 small stainless steel one (Not that good) then a I got a the smallest Webber and it works great. Sits on table and cooks well. Cost was 200.

I like the idea of a Weber. I have one of their gas grills at home and it is fantastic. I’m sure the quality spills over to their electric models.

I wanted to get the magma marine electric grill but there did not seem to be enough quality reviews and there were some complaints about tripping the breaker. The Weber also looks nice but I would have to fabric a mount (which I have been considering) still have concerns regarding the breaker.

I really like the idea of the Kenyon with the element up against the grill grate but they do not have a smaller portable.

So for the time being I regularly use a George forman grill as we can not use the magma propane grill at the dock. This grill also stows nicely on the 340SDA under the front port seat.

Where under the port seat?? I like the weber too, but would have to fabricate a mount. I saw this online and it looks pretty good too. My george forman works great, but the cleaning ad drip tray is a nightmare. I really would like to mount it on a rod holder also.

Weber make a nice one. Got good reviews. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Weber-Q...PIPHorizontal2_rr-_-204671638-_-204671649-_-N

I had trouble finding an electric grill that kept temperature sufficient for real grilling. That led me to my Weber Q 1200. I installed the Magma flush pedestal stand and the magma filet table. It fits the Weber perfectly.

Where the cooler would have been - I have the long Forman Grill not the round.

cleaning ad drip tray is a nightmare.
Yep thats why I like the Kenyon design. Entire bottom is a disposable aluminum pan. It's my main complaint with the Forman

I really would like to mount it on a rod holder also.

That's what I will do with my Propane Magma - although I would really like it on the swim platform away from everyone. Think of seeing if I can fab something other that another mount.

Everyone says good things about the Q-Grills just don't know anyone personally that uses the electric. With the Weber I am back to how to mount on boat and having to fab something.

I also like the idea behind the Gotham Steel Electric Smokeless Grill. Problem is there is no cover and I think it would loose too much heat - also no real mounting options again.

Personally I would love to go all electric as it make cooking so much easy at the dock. No running back and forth to the grill. I would keep the propane for use when I am out and not interested in running the generator.

Marc & Kevin:
Before you go for the rod holder mount, see if you can give one a test run.
I tried the rod holder with my little Magma propane and wasn’t real comfortable with it. Just felt a little too shaky. You may, or may not, like it.
The Grill-a-Mount is pricey for sure, especially for what it is, but once I took the plunge I was glad I did. Cooking on the swim platform is much better for me too.
I really dislike the little Magma though, and grill a lot less because of that.
Replacing it with another propane doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
No experience at all with the Weber electric, but I know the quality of my big propane Weber at home is excellent so odds are their little grill will be good too.

I have a Magma and the rod holder mount and it works for us. In the winter, when we have the cockpit canvas up, I use the rod holder on the port side by the transom door. In the summer, I keep it in the starboard rod holder as it is more out of the way.

We had the pedestal mount on the swim platform on the last boat we had-260DA and liked it as well.

I am not in love with the Magma Grills, but there just is not a lot of choice for a mountable grill.

This is the one I have - love the electric setup and provides an execuse the exercise the generator when on a mooring or anchor, or shore power back at the dock. The previous owner had a power point put in the starboard locker.

I have a u-bar on the back of my swim platform and it sits on a clamp on mounted fitted to the u-bar. I leave the BBQ mounted permantately. The same place that makes the BBQ's also makes covers as well. You can see the setup in my sig pic. I also have a hot plate liner over the stainless plate which makes cleanup simply a wipe with a paper towel.

I opted for the Weber 1200, and just ordered a Grillamount.

I have used the Weber several times and can attest that it get super hot and leaves great grill marks on steaks and chops. I have tried to blow it out, but it stays lit. Great grill. So far I used it right in the cockpit on the table with the table remaining cool t the touch.

I'm going to use the grillamount to mount to the transom locker rail, and build a table/bar with removable mounts for the Weber legs, although, I doubt it will go anywhere if I were just to set it on the table. The weber legs are hollow and would allow a little locking pin or latch to hold it down.

Here are a couple picture of the table mounted up from Michael over at grillamount
