Has anyone retrofitted a Smartcarft display?

I've used Smartcraft on a friends 07 320 and would like to retrofit if possible.

The boat 2002 280 DA
The engine 496 mag BIII

Mercury website says the engine is smartcraft ready.

Are the existing 02' Sea Ray guages already using the Smartcraft technology?

Real interest is getting additional data display such as fuel flow and a better trim indication, are additional senders/sensors required?

I don't think I have to use the Mercury display as I have seen a couple of threads on using Navman hardware. I already have reasonably decent condition Raymarine, so a new display will be required.

So help and all suggestions welcome

Thanks

I have Smartcraft interfaced to a Chartplotter. You can read about it on this posting. http://www.byowneryachts.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1253&highlight=navman
What I would suggest you do is call Mercury to see what level of ECM you have on your boat and what information would be available if you interfaced it with something like a Navman or Northstar Chartplotter. You also would need to ask if you would tap in right at the ECM or if there is already a Smartcraft cable going to your guages (which I highly doubt). If it's a do-able, its strictly plug and play.

Henry,

I added Smartcraft guages to my 2002 320DA. It is a straightforward job. I ended up using the SC1000 Tachs and speedo as I had no room for the larger SC5000 display. Like you I have a full suite of Raymarine stuff. I also replaced my 4-in-one engine gauges with the Smartcraft versions.

You can look on eBay for Smartcraft stuff, but be sure you know what you need before you bid. There are many different types of cables for example. I ended up ordering most of my parts from my local Mercury guy. I found Sea Ray 4-in-1 gauges online at a large Florida marine salvage yard (PM me if you want to know where).

The only "tricky" part was hooking up my fuel tank senders so they would work with my new smartcraft gauges.
