Has anyone had to replace the upper yoke seal on a Bravo 3 Drive?

About a year ago Mercury authorized my dealer to install a new outdrive on my boat because of corrosion issues. So this week I had the dealer pull the drive for it's first service and the drive bellow was full of gear oil. ( I have put oil in the reservoir a couple of times in the last year but just chalked that up to "normal" for a Bravo 3 based on my prior experience). Pressure testing the drive didn't indicate a leak but just the same Mercury authorized the installation of a new upper Yoke seal under warranty . It just seems strange to me that the seal would fail so quickly. That is why I was curious how many of you folks may have experienced the same seal failure.

Dave,

We had to do ours in the spring of 2011. Exact same symptoms, only it turned out to be worse. The contact area on the yolk where the seal meets was worn to where the yolk was out of spec. Merc sells u-joints, the coupler end of the drive shaft, but not the yolk end. You have to buy the drive shaft. Make sure they check the diameter of the yolk where the seals goes and ensure it is in spec.

Thanks Henry. I don't think they checked the OD of the yolk so for know I'll just have to keep an eye on the oil consumption. I don't think it showed any signs of wear though.
