Hardwood Floor Installation Questions

We decided to install hard wood in the salon that matches the wood under the dining table and the galley. I'm still milling the trim and will eventually replace the carpet on the stairs with the wood as well. I built two subfloors to install the flooring to as they will be removed for major engine service when I need to raise the hatches. This way if anyone ever wants to go back to carpet, no permanent
modification was done. Ill post final pics once the trim is installed.
Why would anyone ever want to go back to carpet when that looks so amazing?

Next up is cladding the stairs, that will be a fun one. I would have liked to find a better match to the factory wood but it is 13 years old. The darker wood contrasts and matches well with the cabinets though. Over all I am happy with it.

Well I just went out today to get some samples to take to the boat this weekend to show my wife.... This forum costs me so much money.
I didn't see anything under 3-1/2.... Where did you get your flooring?

I got it from Wayfair on line. It measures 3 1/4 but looks great on the bigger floor. SeaRay installed 2 1/2 inch in the galley but being a smaller area, proportionately it works. The original is sun bleached too so it will be difficult if not impossible to replicate perfectly so some compromise is required.

These all look amazing! Kudos to the captains that have done the work themselves. Since our boating season is starting to come to an end here in VA we're looking at tearing out the carpet and having some form of hardwoods installed in the cabin this fall. Is this something that a vendor like Lumber Liquidators could do, or does it have to be a marine certified installation? Any suggestions for where I might find such a unicorn?

Does everyone leave the carpet on the riser from the floor (looks like that's the standard) or has anyone successfully replaced that carpeting as well? If so, with what?

I would also love suggestions for what type of flooring we should lay down. We want water/weatherproof and it needs to be something that can stand up to puppy paws as we bring our lake dog with us wherever we go. We've got some ideas, but you folks here at Club Sea Ray are always my first stop when planning for a boat project. Thanks in advance!!

PS: We're a 2007 Sundancer 44DA. Steps already have some form of wood flooring on them, the rest is carpet.

I haven't done it yet as we keep saying we are going to sell this boat ….but I have looked into it with various vendors.
Lumber Liquidators won't guaranty anything if put on a boat and I would suspect any other home supplier would be the same way.
You need to find a local installer and work with him as to what product would work best as he will like to work with some products more than others, that is what I found around here anyway.
I was quoted around $5,000.00 +/- from 2 different guys for both labor and material.
We have a local boat and RV carpet guy.. he said he could match the carpet and it would be around $1,800

I’ve found that the wood in the cabin really doesn’t experience moisture issues but we don’t have kids in and out of the water and running through the salon. It does show little paw prints from the boat dog but a quick swifter wipe and all is good. Way easier than shampooing carpet. As for base boards and carpet on the walls I’m planning on replacing with vinyl to match the walls.
I’ll see how the installation makes it through the winter as the boat stays in the water year round and sees cabin temp swings from high 30s to 90s.

We bought a new house a couple of months ago and have the vinyl planks that look like wood in certain areas. I would suspect it might hold up and work nicely in a marine application, but have not researched yet.

We have the vinyl water proof flooring that looks like wood in our basement bathroom. Five years and still looks new. It gets very wet with kids and the shower, also had the dog walking on it. That is what we’re putting in the boat.

After multiple trips back and forth for the cutting and fitting. Causing the floor taking about a week to do. I read here where one of the owners did theirs in two days. What they did was make a complete template of the floor out of poster board then laid it out on the assembled flooring and cut the flooring it to the template, Then installed the new precut floor.

Did you take your carpet out and replace it with wood flooring? We are Lake Erie boaters as well and are looking to replace our carpet as well.

Quick question. How did you go about getting that curved trim piece near the stairs to fit so perfectly? Any special product you used?
