Guns on your boat

Actually, I am a Freedom loving Conservative and as luck would have it for you - I defend your right to disagree with me (no matter how perverse it may be). The beauty and irony of Freedom and freedom of speech is that (as it it proven time and time again) whereas one would expect the "educated" left to support it - instead they rail against it. Further - the apparently hedonistic right continues to protect the ability for all people to express themselves.

Is there more to follow? Just wondering....maybe you had to stop and go outside to do some target practice or something.

No - I just stepped out to make sure that everyone had a "safe space " LOL

For arguements sake, lets say America banned guns, and guns were actually collected and destroyed.
Do you think American criminals would just stop committing crimes and murder without guns? OR,
Do you think they will pick up knives, ball bats, etc, to commit these acts?
Then what do we do, collect up all the knives and ball bats? Where does it stop. Guns are the tool used, because it's the best option....option because a person that will commit a crime will do so with what ever is available.

My brother is not with us anymore, because he didn't carry a weapon on board his personal boat, when he visited the Bahamas. The pirates boarded him and now he is gone. Funny thing, he was an officer in the Coast Guard, and patrolled thoes same islands aboard his Cutter with plenty of armorment and crew. He knew the dangers, but didn't feel it would find him aboard his own vessel. Boy was he wrong, now he's gone and my family still suffers our loss.
I don't know why he felt like he did, but I'll tell you I don't share his same sentiments. When I visit the islands, I carry and report to the Bahamian government the weapons onboard, and follow their rules. I have had an experience in the Abacos, and believe because I had a weapon, it discouraged the "pirates" from doing what they planned.
When a questionable boat circles, with questionable men aboard, sizing up a situation. I went below and emerged with my shotgun and pistol. Didn't point them at anybody, just showed them they will have to fight to get us. They left. I suppose to find some folks that were easier pickings. Maybe, maybe not. Will never know their true intentions, but then I'm here and my brother is gone.

I can say for myself, I don't plan on being attacked, but I am ready for it none the less. Thus my boat houses a hand gun, sorry if some people don't agree or are offended by that, but that is your problem, not mine.

And to Mike, condolences on your families tragic loss.
Where do you hide it in your boat? or do you have it on you all the time? That would interfere with my cannonballs....jumping off the boat I mean.

My sympathies for your loss. You perfectly illustrated my earlier point about being a target for piracy and attack.

Wrong. The odds are far greater of confronting a situation in a 7-11 type store than winning Power Ball...

Your right, the power ball is a bi-ch, more in line with mega millions.

Post up some odds. The NRA has their monthly mag "the armed citizen" maybe 10 stories a month that include the whole country.

edit.. NRA mag only 5 stories this month

And how many incidents go unreported. Many violent crimes go unreported. Either by the news outlets or public safety officials. Sometimes an incident may occur where police are not notified because the offender fled from an armed citizen and nobody wants to get involved.

I'll pass as I could never post anything to change your mind. BTW, those are stories of success in action. What about all the successes in the use as a deterrence such as Island described in his story? Those cannot be easily found.

How dangerous is it out there? You are 3 times more likely to kill yourself than some one else kill you.

Guess it depends on where you live or where you go. But who knows, maybe you could get carjacked in Mayberry now a days.
