GUID-ONS??

Here's a picture of mine and they are not pvc.

I would rip them right off if they were pvc. They have saved me so many times I can't begin to tell you how important they are for me. When I launch or retrieve all I can see is the very top of them. They are welded solid to the frame and made out of 2 x 4 steal c beams.

Well now looking at the size of your boat you need something that big!.. im only in a 20 ft.. lol

It is possible, but you may find that buying all of the pieces may cost more than that kit, also can you get the thick heavy pvc that is used for the guide on posts. The standard drain line/waterline pvc is not going to be that strong. If you have no current to fight you may get away with it, in my case I have to fight a 5 to 6 mile an hour current at times in a narrow creek so I need something strong. All you can do now is a little to see what you can get to make your own and compare the total cost and work involved.

Now for a better post, my neighbor has something that looks like 1/4 inch fiberglass orange rods mounted on a spring like a cb antenna that he got from a local construction rental store that are used for wide load towing. They work great and are very visible.

That's an interesting idea! I've been thinking of some also but it sounds as if crOck is truly wanting or NEEDing a true Guide On (... I saw that post where you say you suck at parking  ) heh

The wifey does a good job of loading if I can get the forward part of the fenders showing, but that isn't always possible.

Hey Crock:

Seems to me you'd just need a set of pole guides at the end of the trailer to keep the sterm from blowing off the trailer while you winch the girl onto the bunks.

Some 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe made in to "L" shapes and U-Bolted to the trailer chassis might just do the trick. If this works make the pipes high enough to be seen from the car top help you in backing.

If you need guide boards ... it will become a more formidible project as you'll probably want the uprights welded to the trailer.

yea i just want to be able to keep the stern from blowing to the right or left... but im pretty good at parking it in the trialor.. and i also like the face that you can see your trailor in the rear view when theres no boat on it!

Ive toyed with the idea of guide ons, but every time I load up it gets just a little easier, What I found that really helps is to keep the trailer as straight with the truck as possible, this prevents the trailer from being in the water at an wierd angle, come in from quite a distance which will give you time to make minor adjustments go slow and pretend like you are going to put in in the back of the truck.

If the truck and trailer are straight and you are comming straight for the back of the truck 9 times out of 10 you will you will land her right!!!

At night Ill tape chem lights to the tops of the trailer fenders, usually the lights are shallow enough that you can still see them. Kinda a cheap temporary fix at night.
